Mary Whitford Obituary

Mary Jane G. Whitford CHARLESTON - Mary Jane G. Whitford, 84, of Charleston, the widow of Deacon James E. Whitford, MD, died Friday, November 27, 2009. Born July 23, 1925 in Lowville, New York, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Wessel Gallup and Mary Rose Kohler Gallup. Jane graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education. She served on the Dansville, New York school board for 10 years. Jane was a very active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James, on October 16, 2008, their son James E. Whitford, Jr., MD and her brother Walter I. Gallup. She is survived by her two daughters: Mary Jane W. Daino and her husband Joseph, Jr. of Lansdale, PA and Nancy W. Kappes of Indianapolis, IN; two sisters: Elizabeth G. Fogarty of Potsdam, NY and Ellen G. Lorenzini of Brantingham Lake, NY; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek. The inurnment of James and Jane Whitford will be held in June 2010 at St. Mary Our Mother Catholic Church Cemetery in Horseheads, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wordsworth SPIRIT Program, Pennnsylvania Avenue & Camphill Road, Fort Washington, PA 19034, 215-643-5400, or White Oak Manor, 9285 Medical Plaza Drive, Charleston, SC 29406. I will miss my Godmama terribly! She was such a special lady, and we always had so much fun, especially at the Spoleto Festivals. She and Uncle Jim were the best "tour guides" of Charleston you could ever hope to find. May God bless and keep her with Him.
