Mary Van Brocklin Obituary

Mary Lee Van Brocklin WALTERBORO - Mrs. Mary Lee Strawn Van Brocklin, affectionately known by many as "Nana," age 59, of 509 Pellum Road, Walterboro, entered into her eternal rest Monday evening, June 29, 2009, at her residence under the care of Odyssey Hospice and surrounded by her loving family whom she adored. Funeral services will be conducted 10 o'clock Thursday morning, July 2, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Jefferies Blvd, Walterboro. Mrs. Van Brocklin was born July 8, 1949, in Walterboro, and was a daughter of the late Lemuel Heath "L.H." Strawn and the late Lou Sineath Strawn. She was a customer service representative at Coastal Electric Cooperative in Walterboro. She was a member of Ruffin Baptist Church and had also attended Cottageville Baptist Church. She was a volunteer and major supporter of Relay For Life in Colleton County. Supporting the fight against cancer was one of the major devotions of her life. Every year she participated, did everything within her power to make the cause a success, and raised as much money as she could, having raised her most ever in 2009. She loved to work in her flower garden and sincerely enjoyed watching her flowers grow and tending to them. She was a wonderful southern cook, and many will fondly recall the meals she prepared and the fellowship they allowed. "Nana" as she was known, will always be held as a close memory for the love and devotion she possessed for her family and grandchildren, always centering her life around those she loved. Surviving are: her husband: Mr. Jeffery John Van Brocklin; a son, William Bryan and his wife Toni "Wendy" of Walterboro; a daughter, Kristen Fraser and her husband Terry of Walterboro; a step-son, Ian Van Brocklin and his wife Erin of Pulaski, New York; a step-daughter, Ashley Van Brocklin of Pulaski, New York; and three sisters, Bessie Mae Barwick of Walterboro, Linda Pearson of Summerville, and Ann Lyons of Walterboro. There are eight grandchildren, Laura Bryan, Joseph Bryan, Brittnay Clark, Caitlyn Gayden, Ashlynn Fraser, Makenna Van Brocklin, Dyln Van Brocklin, and Aubrie Van Brocklin. In memory and celebration of Mary Lee's life, the family wishes for you to help others through a gift to Colleton County Relay For Life, Coastal Electric Cooperative Team, Post Office Box 1457, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488. Mary Lee was my neighbor and my friend for many years. I grew up with her whole family and went to school to with them. She always had a smile on her face each and every time I saw her. She will be missed by me and every one who loved her. God has received her into his arms. All my thoughts are with the family today.
