Mary Smith Obituary

SMITH, Mary Mary Esther Smith, 76, of Pawleys Island, SC, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at her residence. Memorial services will be held Friday afternoon, March 17, 2006, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 2 o'clock. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children's and Youth Building Fund, c/o St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 316 W. Carolina Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483. Miss Smith was born on January 19, 1930, in Summerville, SC, a daughter of the late Phineas Franklin Smith and the late Susan Hutchinson Smith. She was a retired guidance counselor for Winyah High School. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. After a 25-year acting career, in 2002 she was honored by the Swamp Fox Players as the First Lady of the Theater in Georgetown. Survivors include hers sister-in-law, Mrs. P. Frank Smith, of Summerville; eight nieces and nephews, Stanley Reahard of Tampa, FL, Susan Lemon Grace of Charlotte, NC, Franklin Y. Smith, J. Foster Smith, both of Summerville, William Lemon of Spartanburg, SC, Arden Lemon Edwards of Charleston, SC, Alexander A. Lemon of Mount Pleasant, SC, Mary Lemon Hayes of Hilton Head, SC; and many great nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Miss Smith was predeceased by her brother, Phineas Franklin Smith, Jr., and her sister, Sue Smith Lemon. Arrangements by PARKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. I loved Mike as did so many others. She was a great influence on my life as a child and an adult. I know she is happy and at peace and looking down on each of us with that beautiful smile and great laugh. I miss her and pray she is enjoying her eternal home.
