Mary Sloan Obituary

Mary Carter "Cookie" Sloan MT. PLEASANT - Mary Carter "Cookie" Sloan of 601 Mathis Ferry Road (Sweetgrass Village) passed away January 26, 2011, at Hospice House of Charleston. A Memorial Service for Miss Sloan will be Monday, January 31st at 4:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 2304 US Highway 17, Mount Pleasant, SC. The family will receive friends and relatives following the Memorial Service at 21 Grace Lane, Ion, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. Graveside Services for Miss Sloan will be Wednesday, February 2nd at 2:00 pm at Saint James Episcopal Church, 301 Piney Mountain Road, Greenville, SC. Miss Sloan was born October 30, 1940, in Columbia, SC and was the daughter of Allan Poe Sloan and Lessie Dwight Sloan. She was a lifelong Episcopalian and was a member of Saint Andrews Mount Pleasant, Saint James Greenville, and most recently Christ Church Mount Pleasant. Miss Sloan is survived by her brother, Allan Poe Sloan, Jr. and his wife, Sandra McBee Sloan of Anderson, SC; her nephew Allan Poe "Chip" Sloan III and his wife, Florrie Miller Sloan and their three children, Florence, Allan IV and Eliza of Mount Pleasant, SC and her niece Mary Sloan Gilliam and her husband, the Rev. J. Malone Gilliam and their four children, Lessie Grace, Anne, Sandra Elizabeth, and June of Nashville, TN. Memorials may be made in Miss Sloan's name to The American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123, Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 and Christ Episcopal Church, 2304 US Highway 17 North, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466. The family wishes to thank the residence and staff of Sweetgrass Village, the staff of Hospice House of Charleston, friends and relatives for reflecting to Cookie the happiness, support, generosity, and unconditional love she showed to all. Miss Cookie had a way of making herself part of our family at After Care Essentials. She had a truly sweet and honest soul! We will miss her phone calls to our office just to keep in touch! Our sincere condolances go out to her family. She was one of a kind, and we love her!
