Mary Ridgeway Scott Obituary
Mary Abigail Ridgeway Scott, 85, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of October 28, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 29, 1940, in Manning, South Carolina.
Known affectionately by many names-Gayle to her friends, Ms. Abby to her husband, and Meme to her children and grandchildren-she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt.
In her younger years, Gayle and her husband, F.D., shared a love for travel, visiting places such as Rome, Spain, Italy, France, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and her favorite destination, Hawaii. She also enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and watching classic films, especially Gone with the Wind.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Ridgeway; her mother, Carrie Lee Ridgeway ("Nanny"); her brother, Jerry Ridgeway; and her daughter, Kelly Scott.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, F.D. Scott; her daughter, Lisa Scott Woods (Paul Woods); and her son, Kenny Scott (Dana Scott). She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Katherine Woods, Abbie Woods, John Woods, Caroline Scott, and Jennifer Scott; two great grandchildren: Morgan Jones and Lincoln Goree. Gayle is also survived by her siblings: Bill Ridgeway and Carolyn Taylor; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
She was lovingly cared for in her final years by her eldest granddaughter, Katherine; her husband, F.D., and many other wonderful caretakers at Agape Hospice. A special thank you to Leslie and Lisa Scott who stayed 24/7 the last two weeks to help Katie and F.D. while she was transitioning.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Agape Hospice in her memory.
A visitation of family and friends will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 1pm to 2pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The funeral service will begin at 2pm in the Chapel. Entombment will immediately follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC 29485.
