A dear friend from Simpsonville just sent me a message that Mary Wallace (Riser)Monroe died. What a beautiful, Godly woman. I grew up across the street from John and Catherine Riser in Whitmire. My mama and Mary Wallace's mama were both school teachers, and both were Godly women. Mary Wallace was always so pleasant. My mother taught Mary Wallace and was very fond of her. I well remember when Mary Wallace married, and I remember her son Bob as he used to come back to visit his grandparents in Whitmire and would come over and play with my youngest brother, Dan. Mr. John used to catch so many fish and Mrs. Riser didn't want to scale the little bream, and he would bring them to me. He is the first person to ever show me how to use a spoon to scale a bream. I was at the funeral home in Clinton last night for the funeral of a 94 year old gentleman who has been a wonderful part of my life, and some of my classmates and I said then that we are losing so many of our loved ones. I remarked that I once thought of going to funeral home to pay respects to the parents of my friends only to realize that "we are they". What a Godly legacy she had and what a Godly legacy Mary Wallace Riser Monroe leaves behind. My prayers are with Bob and all the family. May the God of all comfort, be your strength in these days.
