Mary Howard Obituary

Mary Anne Canova Howard CHARLESTON - Mary Anne Canova Howard died a holy death on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Mary Anne was born in Jacksonville, FL, on October 8, 1930, and raised in Gainesville, FL, where she graduated from the University of Florida. She married the love of her life, Bert Howard, a US Naval Aviator and began married life that would take her to locations all over the world. In each new location, she quickly made her house a home in which she offered gracious hospitality. With her husband's career, she had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and entertain them. Serving in leadership positions in the Officer's Wives Clubs, PTA of her daughters' schools, and on the altar guild of churches, she was beloved because of her cheerfulness, kindness, and storytelling. Her faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ, was strong to the very end when her last attempt at words during a small family communion were "Our Father." She is predeceased by her late husband, Captain Albert William Howard, Jr., USN Retired. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Lynn Howard Lawrence (Robert), Lisa Anne Howard Grose (Robert); grandchildren, Anne Adina Grose Gaskill (Scott), Stratton Howard Lawrence (Hunter), Newman Huckabee Lawrence (Trish), William Henry Lawrence (Ellie), and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Jude's Anglican Church, Walterboro, SC, on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 4:00 pm followed by interment at Beaufort National Cemetery on Friday, May 26, 2023. Memorials may be made to the prayer ministry of The Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul, Charleston, SC. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston
