Mary Finnegan Obituary

Mary "Mollie" McCabe Finnegan MT. PLEASANT - Mary "Mollie" McCabe Finnegan, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, August 21, 2009, at the Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center. Mollie was born on October 27, 1922 to the late Patrick and Bridget (Kane) McCabe in Tavnamore, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. She came to the United States in May 1948, and enjoyed 47 years as a New Yorker. She was widowed by her husband of 39 years Brian Finnegan in 1988, whom she married on June 25, 1949 in Manhattan. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bronx, NY and Christ Our King Catholic Church. Mollie returned to Ireland 8 times since 1974 and always remained close to her Irish heritage. She will be deeply missed by her family including two sons, Brian Finnegan of Orlando, FL, Edward Finnegan of Mt. Pleasant, a daughter, Mary Bridget Cabezas of Mt. Pleasant, three grandchildren, Julia, Christopher and Martin, and her many family members from the Murphy and Kane families of Ireland. Family and friends are invited to attend her Liturgy of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2009, at Stella Maris Catholic Church. Burial to follow on Thursday in Calverton National Cemetery, Suffolk, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Charleston Foundation for the Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center in Mt. Pleasant, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Mollie's gentle spirit and Irish smile will be cherished forever. Her quiet courage and determination in adversity were truly valiant.
