Mary Ader Obituary

ADER, Mary Entered into eternal rest on March 5, 2006, Mary Sue Rogers Ader, widow of Edward Arthur Ader. Residence, Columbia, SC, formerly of Charleston, SC. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services in Grace United Methodist Church, Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at Two O'clock. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL Tuesday from Five until Eight O'clock. Mrs. Ader was born in South Boston, VA., January 20, 1928, the daughter of Joseph Rogers and Ruth Nance Rogers. She served on the Charleston City Council for 24 years, and she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Following a career in civil service, Mary had numerous professional and political accomplishments that included election to city council in 1975. She served as Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Charleston, was the first in the state to serve in both political parties, and served Charleston on numerous committees, commissions, and community projects. Mrs. Ader served on the Board of North Bridge Terrace Civic Club, North Bridge Terrace Recreation Center, State and Local PTA, and Girl Scout leader and consultant. She was a member of the Charleston Women's Club, Country Club of Charleston, and past member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was a 1944 graduate of Bessemer High School, Greensboro, NC, and she attended numerous management and training courses when federally employed. Surviving are her son, Joseph Daniel "Dan" Ader of Columbia, SC; 2 daughters, Captain Denise Johnson, United States Navy, of Chesapeake, VA, and Diana Ader of Chesapeake, VA; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild. The family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks to NHC Parklane, especially Mrs. Peggy Hall, for all the care and attention throughout the duration of Mrs. Ader's stay. TO MARYS' FAMILY;

PLEASE ACCEPT OUR HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES ON YOUR LOSS. WE KNEW MARY MANY MANY YEARS AND KNOW HOW MUCH SHE LOVED CHARLESTON AND WEST ASHLEY ESPECIALLY THE NORTHBRIDGE AREA. SHE WAS A WONDERFUL LADY AND A GREAT PUBLIC SERVANT AND WE HAVE MISSED HER SINCE HER STROKE AND PRAYED SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO RETURN TO US. WE WERE SO SADDENED TO READ OF HER PASSING AND WANT YOU TO KNOW SHE WAS QUITE A VOICE IN OUR AREA AND SHE IS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE DEEPLY MISSED.
