Martin Hyatt Obituary

Martin George Hyatt CHARLESTON - Martin Hyatt passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023. Martin had been a resident of James Island for over 40 years, and he loved the peaceful nature of his home and community on Lake Edmonds.. After he retired as manager of Charleston County Mosquito Abatement in 2008, he could often be seen helping to keep James Island clean on his frequent walks with his wife, Sarah. He was honored by the Town of James Island as a community hero in 2018. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University and later completed a Master of Arts in Teaching degree at The Citadel. He served Charleston County well in starting innovative, cost saving programs and more environmentally acceptable methods for mosquito abatement. Martin loved playing tennis, mostly at Maybank Tennis Center on James Island, and he treasured the friendships he made there. He was an active member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Charleston. Joyful memories of his good humor, compassion, caring, humility, and grace will be cherished by his wife of almost 54 years, Sarah G. Hyatt, his sons, Scott (Jackie) of Evans, GA and Andrew (Cortney) of Spartanburg, his granddaughters, Kyra and Milana of Evans, GA, and his younger brother, William Hyatt (Pam) of Jupiter, FL. Martin was the middle son of George and Virginia Hyatt of Raleigh, NC.
