Martha Funk Obituary

Martha Jeanette Macale Funk SULLIVANS ISLAND - On September 8, 2012, in Mt. Pleasant, SC, Martha Jeannette Funk shed the shackles of her earthly body at the age of 94. She entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior and was welcomed with open arms by the loved ones that had gone before her, especially her husband Gil and grandsons Matthew Meehan and Jonathon Funk. Martha was born in Akron, Ohio on February 13, 1918 and lived and raised a family in Akron until she and her husband retired to South Carolina. She loved the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the hours she shared with many friends in worship and fellowship. Her last 11 years of life were so blessed by the wonderful people of Hibben United Methodist Church and her beloved Joy Circle. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Thomas Macale, her husband, Gilmore Funk, her grandsons, Matthew Meehan and Jonathon Funk, and sisters, Helen Macaluso, Viola Stalcup, and Joan Reed. She will be mourned and missed by her four children, Mary (William) Meehan of Sullivan's Island S.C., Marti (Fred) Hartwig of Greenville, S. C., Gil (Cheryl) Funk of Tuslaw, OH, and Tom (Judy) of Jackson Twp., OH, and her sister Marcy Dubeck of Zanesville, OH. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Hibben United Methodist Church. Burial will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery, Greenville, SC.
