Marshall Sweatman CHARLESTON - Marshall Lee Sweatman, 72, of Charleston, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 4 o'clock at Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The family will receive friends for a visitation an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Marshall to the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice. Marshall was born on January 6, 1951 in Summerville, SC and is the son of the late Ruben and Sophie Sweatman. Marshall retired as a railroad engineer. He was known for his sense of humor and his contagious laugh and when you saw him, he was always smiling. Marshall was a gentleman, whose kindness and thoughtfulness endeared him to all who knew him. He loved golf; his dog, Roscoe; Clemson football; and a cold drink at the end of a long, hot day. He took great pleasure in gardening and enjoyed spending an evening around the fire pit in his backyard. He cherished his time at Folly Beach and Caesar's Head. But most of all he loved his wife, children, granddaughter, and all his family. Marshall is survived by his wife, Jeanne C. Hagood of Charleston, SC; daughter, Lauren Sweatman of Summerville, SC; son, Chase Sweatman (Brittani) of Summerville, SC; brothers, Ruben Sweatman III (Erin) of Gilbert, SC, Mickell Sweatman of Summerville, SC; sisters, Beverly Verble (Hod) of Daniel Island, SC, Paula Rutledge of Summerville, SC; granddaughter, Morgan Sweatman of Summerville, SC; step-grandsons, Easton Saltarelli of Summerville, SC, Bentlee Saltarelli of Summerville, SC; his loyal friend, Barney Smalls of Summerville, SC; nephews, Ruben "Ben" Sweatman IV, Hod Verble, Jr.; nieces, Stephanie Sweatman Grill, Casie Sweatman Cutlip, Amra Verble Smith; step-son, Jason Slade of Summerville, SC; and 5 great-nieces and nephews.
