Marshall Potter Obituary

Marshall O. Potter, Jr. MT. PLEASANT - Marshall O. Potter, Jr. passed away on Dec. 19, 2023, in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Marshall was born on Dec. 29, 1927, in Adams, Mass., to Marshall O. Potter, Sr. and Hazel Shaw. He graduated from Adams High School in 1946 and later went on to earn a degree in Business Administration in 1953 from Boston University. He completed his formal education with a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA, in 1972. He enlisted in the army in 1946 and continued to serve in the reserves through 1954. He worked as a claims adjuster and claims manager for a few insurance companies before being employed as an attorney for the Department of Veteran's Affairs in Washington D.C., for 25 years, following which he entered private practice for another 30 years, representing Veterans who needed their benefits. Marshall volunteered throughout his life in many capacities: as a youth sports coach, as a Town of Vienna, VA, planning commissioner and zoning board member. He was a life member of the Vienna volunteer fire department, volunteering in an administrative support role. He received numerous awards for his commitment to volunteer services. Marshall is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann Eberle Potter; his son, Edward M. Potter, Sr. (Liz Potter); his daughter, Melissa Potter Gleason (Phil Gleason); and his grandchildren, Bryan Gleason, Edward M. Potter, Jr., Samantha Gleason Schray (Kurt Schray), Michael Potter, Olivia Potter, Morgan Dowling, Maggie Potter; great-grandson, Lincoln Schray; his brother, John Potter; and his sister, Irene Potter Rosevear (Bill Rosevear.) Marshall was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Potter Mickelsen. A visitation will be held at J. Henry Stuhr, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC, on Thursday, December 28th, from 10:00AM - 11:30, followed by a funeral service in the chapel. Private burial in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens will follow. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vienna Baptist Church (Vienna, VA), WETA.org (Public TV in Washington, DC), Doctors Without Borders or Native American Veteran's Assistance. my sympathy to the family..........i knew marshall at tulane law school//////argonaut ins. co. i spoke with him early part of this year......we compared our ages...he 95 and i 92. may god bless.respectfully
