Marshall Meadors Obituary

Marshall LeRoy Meadors III, MD ANDERSON, SC - Marshall L. Meadors, III, MD died July 17, 2023. Dr. Meadors was born August 31, 1957 in Atlanta, GA. He was the son of the late Hannah Campbell and Bishop Marshall L. (Jack) Meadors, Jr. He was a graduate of Wofford College (Phi Beta Kappa), and of The Medical University of South Carolina. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Anderson, serving on numerous committees such as PPRC, Trustees, and Education. He was a founding partner of Primary Care Associates; the Medical Director of National Health Care for Anderson for thirty years; and Associate Medical Director of Arthrex of South Carolina. He served as President Of The Medical Staff and a Member of the AnMed Health Board of Directors. He was Medical Director of AnMed Wellspring for twenty years. Dr. Meadors served as President of The South Carolina Medical Association (2015-2016). He also served as Secretary (2008-2011), and Treasurer (2011-2014) of the SCMA. He received the SCMA Communicator of the Year in 2017 and served as Trustee-Fourth District of SCMA (2002-2008). Dr. Meadors expanded his medical care, making several trips to Haiti. On March 11, 2018, Marshall was the recipient of the Inaugural Robert M. Rainey Philanthropy Award, sponsored by Foothills Community Foundation: TBA. His civic involvement included membership of Foothills Community Foundation: TBA through which the first Anderson Dog Park was established; Board of Directors of Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce (2001-2007), Leadership Anderson Class of XVIII (2002); Upstate Forever Board Member (2010-12); Anderson Interfaith Ministries Board of Directors (1993-95); and Anderson Arts Center. Both South Main Chapel and Mercy Center and the Cancer Association of Anderson were very close to his heart. In 2005, the Board of Trustees of Anderson School District Five recognized him for his generous contributions. Marshall was a member of the T. L. Hanna "Hive of '75" football team, defeating Spartanburg High School for the Upper State Championship, a game in which Marshall intercepted Steve Fuller's last high school pass. Marshall was instrumental in the commissioning of the statue of T. L. Hanna's beloved "Radio." Marshall enjoyed hiking, boating, and traveling. One of his special talents was entertaining his family, friends, and co-workers with his glorious firework displays and his amazing oyster roasts (of which he could not partake). He also enjoyed music-all genres, especially the "70s" channel. He especially loved dogs and worked to make sure there was a safe caring place for these special creatures of God. All were welcome in his home. He loved his family deeply. He was very generous. His nieces and nephews created endearing names for him, often referring to him as "Possum," "Uncle Fun," and "Medium Marshall." He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Brown Meadors of Anderson; his loving dogs, South Main and Ellie; three siblings: Jane M. Cromley (George) of Pawleys Island, James (Anne) of Charleston, and John (Tricia) of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Katrina B. (Tom) Harrison, Chandler, Arizona; an aunt, Sarah M. (Sissie) Stokes, a cousin: Sarah L. (Sallie) Stokes of Garden City Beach; fourteen nieces and nephews: Hannah and Parker Cromley, Mary C. Tibbetts (Robert), Weatherly, James, Jr., and Jack Meadors, Blakely, Maggie, John (Salley) and Perry Meadors; Crayton (Leslie) Harrison, Kate H. (Matt) Pazdernik, Megan (Adam) Bridges, Christopher (Michelle) Brown; and fourteen great-nieces and nephews: Marshall, Henry, Vivianne, Benjamin, James, III, Hayes, Wilder, Gus, Toms, Leti, Addie, Avery, Eloise, and Henry. A memorial service will be held on July 23, 2023, St. John's United Methodist, Anderson, SC. The family will greet friends in the Family Activities Center at 2:00 p.m. The service will begin at 3:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Foothills Community Foundation (memo line: Dog Park) 907 N. I was very shocked and saddened to read of Marshall's death. I am late in this note due to personal illnesses. I am a Past President of SCMA and worked with him at that level of volunteerism for the good of Medicine. I was also a Phi Beta Kappa graduate at Wofford College. Marshall had such a good heart, a great sense of humor, a love for his fellow man, and an innate ability to connect with others. I am sure that all of his patients loved him as if he was their own family member. My thoughts and prayers are will all of his family and friends.

I feel inadequate and at a loss for words (a rarity for my bloodline!) as I contemplate this huge loss for Jennifer, the Meadors Family, the PCA Family, the Anderson community, and our beloved State. Marshall, III, MD was one-of-a-kind. I have prayed and I will continue to pray that the peace of our God, and the ardent prayers of His people, will comfort you.

On a "funny note", I well remember seeing the news of Jennifer and Marshall's marriage...thinking to myself (as most of us that loved them likely did!), "Thank God! I've been waiting on 'this' for some time!" Too late (in my book) for their love to be "knotted"...and WAY too early for this world to have lost the incredible life and influence of "Marshall, III, MD". To God be the glory, forever and ever. AMEN. --MH

As we think of death, we never know how God plans our departure from this Earth but we know that the Angels led Dr. Meadors to a most glorious
spot in Heaven. He was a man who had a definite calling and he performed his duties in a way that each of his patients always felt his kindness and compassion. His heart was always open to those who needed a helping hand and a welcoming smile. He was a giver like no other.
May God surround the Meadors family with his abundant love and keep the sweet memories of Marshall deep within your heart.
It was indeed an honor to call Dr. Meadors our doctor as well as our friend.

Jennifer and the Meadors families,

Deepest sympathies are extended to you all for the sudden tragic loss of Marshall. I knew him through the SCMA Board. Our time overlapped there for about 5 or 6 years. He was a great mentor, and always encouraged me as I followed him through the various offices to President as well. He always made the dinners so much fun, and was greatly missed after he exited the Board. We will miss him dearly and know that he is enjoying his heavenly reward now. Rest in peace, Marshall.

I live at NHC (seven years) and Dr. Meadors has been my doctor since I´ve been here. He has taken care of me and spent much time listening to me and handling my problems. I´m shocked at the tragedy that took him too soon, and already miss seeing this wonderful man. He cannot be replaced. My condolences to his wife and family.

I have so many memories of Dr Meadors. He was a colleague and friend. We worked together at Anmed Wellspring. Two of my most memorable memories are when he gave my youngest sister (she was around 7 or 8 yrs old) a ride in his green Miata "with the top down", but he didn´t stop there, he also took her to lunch. This made her day! The second memory is that he bought my first legal drink when I turned 21, I have never forgotten this. He will be greatly missed. Saying prayers for his family during this difficult time.

I´ve worked with Dr. Meadors at NHC for 35 years & can´t imagine not having him here. He was so thorough & professional in his job, but also personable & I could talk to him about anything. He has been my mother´s dr. at NHC, & treated her with kindness & respect. He always had time for her. The world is missing a wonderful man. The things he did for his Anderson community are countless. We shared a love of dogs & talked about them often. My heart is broken for his wife, his family, his "children", Ellie & South Main, & everyone that knew this man. Our loss is heaven´s gain. God rest his sweet soul. He will remain in our hearts forever.

Dr. Meadors was the sweetest provider I have ever met. He always greeted me with a Hello Marci. I really enjoyed working with him at Primary Care Associates. Dr. Meadors will greatly be missed by so many people. Rest in Paradise.

My thoughts & prayers have been with you all week. Dr. Meadors was always patient with us at the pharmacy when he saw we were very busy. Occasionally he would bring Ellie & South Main with him through the drive-thru. I remember the first time they came through I asked him if the "babies" could have a treat. Of course, I had to ask him their names & he told me. I asked,"South Main?" & he told me that's where y'all had found him then he became part of your family. We will miss him, too!
