Marlene Hanjes CHARLESTON - Marlene McCarthy Hanjes, 86, of James Island, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Marlene was born in Charleston, SC, to Michael and Margaret McCarthy on November 5, 1938. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth Hanjes;and her parents, Michael and Margaret McCarthy. Marlene is survived by her daughters, Fonda Goodwin (Ken), Theresa Price (Bill), Kathy Rodgers (Roger), and Jeana Blackwood (Jeri). She had 7 grandchildren, Troy (Holly), Tony (Stephanie), Michelle, Kenny (Roxanne), Amanda, Michael (April), Brandon (Sara); 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Michael (Bubba) McCarthy (Tommie). Marlene was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and big sister. She loved spending time with and entertaining her family and friends especially "The Pearl Girls". She never met a stranger, loved people and always willing to help those in need. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home from 11 am -12 pm. The Life Well Celebrated Service starting at 12 noon with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
