My precious Jennifer,
There are no words to soften the blow of the death of your brother but I have some memories to share.
I remember Markey feeling my tummy grow and asking the how's and what's. (Daddy and I answered very carefully and cautiously.)
I remember Markey holding you oh so very gently and tightly sitting between Daddy and I as you rode in your 'tot toter" on his lap in the old brown Ford LTD.
I remember Markey telling everyone on Brookside Drive about HIS new baby sister.
I remember Markey asking about those 'diaper things' and once he learned- he often took care of them himself!
I remember Markey pushing a box all around the house, you sitting in it, the two of you laughing and giggling!
I remember Markey playing hide the button for you every night while I made dinner.
I remember Markey asking me to bring you to his Lions team football games so you could watch him play.
I remember Mark taking you into the marsh behind our house to teach you about animals and trees.
I remember Mark teaching you how to 'canoe' on a old thick green float!
I remember you and Mark rafting in North Carolina, he never taking his eyes off your raft.
I remember Mark telling every one who would listen about all the things his little sister was doing, the stories changing as you became older and he becoming more and more proud of you!
I remember a brother who watched out the best he was able for his little sister, and I know that HE still is- but from a much better place!
I love you both,
Mama

Dearest Charlie, Linwood and Jennifer,
I am so saddened by the tragic loss of Mark Steven. I smile when I think of this precious little boy sitting in my apartment in Jacksonville.....Charlie, you had dressed him in the cutest outfit right down to the Buster Brown shoes! And, as I think back on those times, Mark Steven really wasn't sitting still. He was full of energy!! And, always made me laugh....
May the wonderful memories that you've had together comfort you and in time help to soften the sadness of your loss.
Fondly,
Linda

My precious daughter Jennifer,
As Mark's guest book is about to be closed, I feel compelled to share with you some memories!
I remember as my tummy grew, Mark's many questions about the how's and what's (which Daddy and I answered very cautiously and carefully!)
I remember Markey's distress when he was not allowed to go to the hospital to get you; he had to stay with our friends, the Faulks.
I remember how proud Mark was, sitting between Daddy and I in that brown Ford LTD with you on his lap tied into your "tot toter."
I remember Mark telling everyone up and down Brookside Drive about his new "baby sister."
I remember Mark asking how those "diaper things" worked and he took care of them as needed from then on! : )
I remember when you were about 6 months old, Markey scooting all over the house pushing you in a cardboard box- you giggled and laughed!
I remember while I made dinner, Mark would play hide the button for you endlessly!
I remember Mark telling everyone at chuch that you were the most beautiful First Holy Communicant!
I remember Mark taking you into the marsh and showing you all the trees and animals.
I remember Mark teaching you to "canoe" on a big green float!
I remember how very proud your brother was of you and all you have accomplished. He would talk aout you to anyone who would listen!
Mostly, I remember how very much your big brother loved you and still does. I believe He watches over you from a much better place than he was ever able to when you were his "baby sister."
Much Love,
Mama

Words can never express all that I feel for our dear Mark. He was an incrediable friend to not only me but my childern. He always brought such life and laughter to our lives! We enjoyed "hanging out" at his apartment or at his mom's house. He always had such good stories to share of some adventure he had. Olivia and Chandler would sit for hours and beg for more when he finished! The love he had for the outdoors and animals! I was given a funny big loveable dog who needed someone who could spend more time with him so my first thought was of Mark. He fell in love with him the second his eyes met the dogs. That dog was given the name of Santee Jr. I spent many afternoon's laying on the bed with Santee and MArk watching TV. Santee was always in the middle nudging you to rub him.
Mark will always have a very special place in my heart! I know Mark knew how much I loved him but I only wish I would have had the chance to tell him one more time!! To have the chance to see his beautiful eyes and feel his strong arms around me again! Since I didn't I hope and pray he can hear and see me now knowing I will never forget him! Mark, enjoy your time over the rainbow! you deserve only the best!!
All my love,
Sephanie

Dear friend Charlie, and Linwood and Jennifer!
All your friends here in Walterboro have you in their thoughts and prayers!
I can remember Mark and I moving your adolescent ducklings out of the bathtub and over to the pond- they acted as if they had been greased- they were so slippery! We giggled and laughed so hard; it was wonderful.
I remember, too, how much you and Mark loved Beau and the Santees and all the kitties. Now, Mark is playing with Beau and lots of other four-footeds and waiting for us to join them! I am here for you. Stay with God!

Mark, we never met, but your mother's pain at your loss is as wide and deep as the oceans of our Earth. Son, bring her solace and let her experience joy again. Now you can do so more than any of us.
Love in the Spirit, Noni.

Nature's first flower is gold, her hardest green to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower, but only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief, Dawn goes down to Day.
Nothing gold can stay.
My favorite poem. For you Charlotte and your family. I love you very much! Katherine

Much loved friend Charlotte and family;
Nana, Joe and I are so sorry for your loss! We will always remember Mark and you standing with us in the rain as you met your new rescue horse, Lakota. He sure was a skinny animal! We joked about the laughs you would give us as you learned to ride! Mark was so much fun as we planned rides for the future when Lakota grew stronger. Mark was to ride Nana's paint, Pepper!
I rememeber, as well, our dinners in Walterboro, you, Mark and I- laughing and enjoying life.
Mark was a very special person who has gone to the better place we all long for- a place of peace, where there is no suffering and he waits for us in the presence and glory of God!

Dearest Mama T, Jennifer and family,
It is with a very heavy heart that I offer you my deepest sympathy. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived--this is to have succeeded." - I have breathed many easier days because of the difference Mark made in my life. I will always have a special place for him in my heart. My thoughts, prayers and love are with you all.

Dear Charlie and all,
It is so very hard to know that my god-son has left us for a better place. No doubt he is keeping mama on her toes! It was always so much fun when we were together- a little boy I taught to make tents- a big man I went rafting with!
With more love than words can express!

My favorite memory of Mark is when I spent the night to babysit and the family was going on vacation the next day. Mark was about 11 and we had stayed up late playing board games. He wanted to sleep in, so he hung a sigh on the door that said "Do not desterv." I just love Mark, I am just jealous that he is with the Father and I can't go yet.
