Vera Wumkes Obituary

OELWEIN - Vera June Wumkes, 85, of Oelwein, died Tuesday morning, March 2, 2010 at Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein.
There will be a private family funeral service.
Public visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
A memorial fund has been established for Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein.

Vera June Schaeffer was born on June 21, 1924 at rural Fayette, Iowa, the daughter of William and Dora (Schrader) Schaeffer. She graduated from Fayette High School at Fayette. Vera June was united in marriage to Ernest Wumkes, Jr. on July 24, 1943 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. The couple farmed for most of their married life in the Dike, Hazleton and Westgate areas. Vera June had also worked at Chamberlain's Manufacturing and the Rath Packing Co. cafeteria both in Waterloo and the State of Iowa Liquor Store in Oelwein. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Oelwein Area Chamber & Area Development Ambassadors. Vera enjoyed bowling, dancing, music and playing cards.
Vera June is survived by her daughter Doris (Larry) Block of Dunkerton; her son Rick Wumkes of Oelwein; six grandchildren, Brandon Block of Spillville, Michelle Block of Oelwein, Heath (Teri) Block of Oelwein, Chad (Kim) Block of Tripoli, Courtney (Jessica) Block of Urbana and Thatcher (Tera) Block of Dunkerton; 12 great grandchildren; a sister Lois (Roger) Gulick of Garner and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest on July 3, 1991 and two sisters, Velma and Verna.
