Marjorie Elizabeth Holt Taylor COLUMBIA, SC - Marjorie Elizabeth Holt Taylor (Marjie), 97, died on Saturday, May 5, 2018, in Columbia, SC, her lifelong home. Born September 2, 1920, she was the daughter of Russell Meredith and Clara Ethel Tate Holt. Marjie married her childhood sweetheart, William Lee Taylor, on November 19, 1942, in Main Street Methodist Church in Columbia. Marjie was a joyful person, a sweet and gracious lady. She adored all children and genuinely loved people. She was a wonderful wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a steadfast friend. She graduated from the University of South Carolina and worked in Columbia as an independent insurance agent for almost fifty years. Marjie was a charter member and faithful volunteer of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. She truly enjoyed working and loved helping others. She is survived by her son, W. Lee Taylor, Jr. (Lee Elf) of Charleston, SC; and her daughters, Betsy Thorne (John) and Meredith Carlen Fowler (Bob), both of Columbia; grandchildren, Kimberly Elf Taylor of Charleston, John T. Thorne, Jr. (Sina) of Columbia, Lauren Taylor Huffman (Coy) of Charleston, W. Holt Carlen of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Will Thorne, Robert Thorne, Quinn Huffman, Taylor Huffman, and Liam King; nieces and nephews. Marjie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, William Lee Taylor; and her beloved brother, Russell M. Holt, Jr. "The gloom of the world is but a shadow.
