Marjorie Scooler Obituary

Marjorie Ellen Antley Scooler CHARLESTON - Marjorie Ellen Antley Scooler, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Donald Scooler and daughter of the late John D. ("Buddy") Antley and the late Ellen Louise Stroman Antley of Orangeburg, South Carolina, passed away on October 31, 2025. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun St., Charleston, SC. Born in Orangeburg on June 12, 1936, Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Ralph David Antley, Sr. of Coral Gables, Florida, and Harry Stroman Antley of Deltona, Florida. She is survived by her husband, Donald Scooler; her children, Christine, James (Kiersten), and Jeffrey (Angela); and her sister, Mary Louise Glesner (the late Jerry). She was a loving grandmother to Joshua Scooler (Cierra); Sydney Joy Scooler Rivera (Tristan); Erin Louise Scooler; Caroline Hope Scooler; and Apollo Orion Scooler; and great-grandmother to Lucy Noelle and Harrison David Scooler. Marjorie trained as a nurse but set her career aside to support Don's service in the U.S. Air Force and to raise their three children through many moves across the country, from Ohio and Colorado to North Carolina, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Once the family settled back in Charleston, she returned to nursing and later found her true passion in interior design. She founded her own business, Familiar Elegance, through which she brought warmth, color, and joy into the homes of friends and clients alike. In later years, as her eyesight failed and mobility declined, Marjorie met those challenges with amazing resilience and grace. She adapted so effortlessly that many never realized how much she had lost. Even as her world narrowed, her creativity and determination never dimmed. Marjorie and Don became a familiar pair around Charleston, known for their warmth and humor at favorite restaurants and at the Charleston Market. After years of traveling, Charleston was her heart's home, and she never wanted to be far from its light and warmth again. Marjorie will be remembered for her quiet strength, her keen eye for beauty, her love of family, and her unfailing ability to make any space or any moment more gracious. A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
