Marion Edgar Rudd N. CHARLESTON - Marion Edgar Rudd, 80, of North Charleston, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, February 9, 2023. Marion was born on March 2, 1942 at home on Montague Avenue in North Charleston. He grew up in and around Lincolnville with parents, Jesse Ernest Rudd, Marie Margaret Chubb Rudd Clark and Curtis Clark. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army and served as a medical corpsman and then motor pool mechanic in Uijeonbu, South Korea from 1961 to 1967. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Expert Rifle M-1. Marion was a rigger at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. In March of 1980, he bought a truck and became an owner operator, where he hauled overseas containers, produce, and boats for Sea Fox and Royal Marine. His occupation took him up, down and across the eastern states for the majority of his travels with several occasions across the entire United States. Marion was a Christian man who loved his Lord and was a child of God. He was in awe of all of God's creation. He had a tender heart for the underdog, the helpless, and the vulnerability of children, the elderly, and animals. He was especially fond of dogs and the birds, which he carefully attended to around his home. He possessed a soulful heartfulness for right and wrong which at times was all consuming and his strong convictions often kept him at odds with the world. Marion taught his children to have regard and empathy for all, to love family and friends, to be mindful of their surroundings, to enjoy the simpler joys of life, and to be genuine, humble, kind, and hardworking in all that they did. Marion's wife and his children were his life, love and focus. He supported his children in boxing, roller skating, football, baseball, softball, cheerleading, choir, and all that they loved including Clemson Tigers and his daughter, Natalie's love of Ronnie Milsap. He introduced them to all that he enjoyed in life camping, fishing, boating and motorcycle riding. He took his family on many adventures from motorcycle rallies, car racing, classic and hot rod car shows, football games, Sea World, Walt Disney World, our Nation's Capital and so much more. Marion was the happiest cooking for and gathering his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jesse Ernest Rudd, sister, Barbara Jean Dewitt, nephew, Kenneth Solada, grandnephew, Billy Barwick and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Marion is survived by the love of his life, his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Elaine Timmons Rudd, son, Francis Marion Rudd and fiance, Candi DuBoise of Cottageville, daughters, Natalie Gamble and son-in-law, Patrick Gamble of Cottageville, and Cynthia Marie Bligen of Walterboro, grandchildren, Hannah and Haleigh Gamble, Cody and Garrett Rudd, Taylor DuBoise, and Roslyn and Ivy Harper; two sisters, Margaret Driggers and Katherine Cross; one brother, Kenney Arthur Clark. Marion is also survived by a host of extended family and friends. He was a great influence to all who were fortunate to cross his path and know him and he touched the lives of so many of his nephews, his nieces, and the lives of so many of his children's friends, his childrens', in-laws and their families. A Visitation with the family will be held at 12pm Monday, February 13, 2023 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC followed by burial at 2pm in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
