Marion Neal Obituary

Marion Earnest Neal Lancaster, SC - Marion Neal, North Charleston, SC, Former Pepperhill Elementary School, Principal and Retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Marion E. Neal entered into eternal rest on April 9, 2018. He had resided at Veterans' Victory House in Walterboro. A funeral service will be held at Deer Park Baptist on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The family and friends are invited to attend, visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Private interment will follow the service. Mr. Neal was from Ladson, SC, and born June 12, 1930, the son of the late Roy and Etta Hammond Neal. In addition to attending memorial's military preschools, SMSGT Neal served during the Korean War and combat in Vietnam War. He received the Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Defense Medal, Air Force Outstanding Award Medal WIII Oak Leaf Clusters, National Medal, Air Force Commutation Award and many numerous other decorations and awards. On April 11,1952, he entered into holy matrimony with Doris Elizabeth Tripp of Nashville,GA. They were married for 66 years and blessed with three children: Sheryl J. Neal of Mt. Pleasant, David (Deborah) Neal of Summerville, SC, and Amy Louetta Neal (Patrick N. Pohl) of Acworth, GA. Survived also by four grandchildren: Jeffery Neal, Amy Lyon, Neal Pohl, Kayla Kase and 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Archie Neal of Easley, SC, Steve Neal of Heath Springs, SC and Bruce Neal of Kershaw, SC. After his retirement from the US Air Force he entered the educational field serving as a Teacher and Principal at Alice Birney School and Pepperhill Elementary School in North Charleston. He held a Bachelor Degree from Charleston Southern University, Master's Degree in teaching and school administration from the Citadel. He retired in February 1987. Mr. Neal was a member of Deer Park Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Teacher and other leadership positions from 1970-Present. The family would like to thank all the wonderful Nurses and Doctors at Veterans Victory House. He was predeceased by three sisters: Claudia, Edith and Doris. Mr. Neal was a principal in many of the years that I was a principal in District Four of Charleston County Schools. His reputation was stellar and the words spoken with his name were always positive.
My prayers are with his immediate family and the school family that he loved.
