Marilyn Carter Obituary

Marilyn K. Carter of Mountain Top entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 3, 2010, in Kindred Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Oct. 8, 1937, in Askam, she was a daughter of the late Samuel P. and Minnie R. Rowe Keefer.

A graduate of Wyoming Seminary and Bloomsburg State Teachers College, Marilyn taught English in the Crestwood School District from 1962 until her retirement in 2003. During her years there she established the Independent Study Program, served as English Department chairwoman, was an advisor to various student groups and was active in the Crestwood Education Association. Marilyn was a member of the NEPA Writing Council and worked with the Wyoming Seminary Alumni Group for many years.

She was also a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Mountain Top.

Marilyn is survived by her children, John Carter and Jacqueline Fine; son-in-law, Howard (Sam) Fine; and grandson, Jesse Fine, all of Mountain Top.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church of Mountain Top, with the Rev. Robert Herrala, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in Hanover Green Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

McCune Funeral Service Inc., 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, has been charged with directing the funeral arrangements.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Kirby Library, 35 Kirby Ave., Mountain Top, PA 18707; or to the Education Fund of Christ United Methodist Church, 175 S. Main Rd., Mountain Top, PA 18707.
