Marie Pettersen Obituary

PETTERSEN, Marie Marie Essie Isgette Pettersen born in Cottageville, SC on February 20, 1912. She was the daughter of Margaret Ackerman and Robert Franklin Isgette. Marie attended elementary school in Cottageville and was a graduate of Memminger Normal High School. She served as a substitute teacher in the Charleston Elementary School System. Marie was a life member of the Garden Club of South Carolina and a longtime member of the St. Andrew's Garden Club, The United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the West Ashley Senior Citizens. She was also a founding member of the Charleston Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church and served as a volunteer for 32 years at Roper Hospital. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Captain Henry Alfred Pettersen. She is survived by her two daughters, Sonya O'Malley of Charleston, SC and Elizabeth Watson and son-in-law Jerry of Columbia, SC. She was a loving grandmother to four grandchildren: Kimberly Hix, Henry Watson, Kelli O'Malley and Heather Jenkins, and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary I. Johnson of Jacksonville, FL. She had a loving cat, Maggie, who was always by her side. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 43 Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC 29401. The family would like friends to join them in the celebration of Marie's life at services in St. Andrews Lutheran Church Saturday, September 24, 2005 at ten-thirty o'clock.
