Marie Ann Van Huss Marion CHARLESTON - Marie Ann Van Huss Marion, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into Everlasting Life and went to meet her Heavenly Father on October 6, 2023. The Celebration of her Life will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023, in St. Philip's Church at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be October 23, 2023, in Highlands Cemetery Memorial Park in Highlands, NC, at 12:30 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Ann was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Marie Claxton Harville and Ernest Stewart Van Huss. She grew up in Atlanta and attended North Fulton High School. Ann received her undergraduate degree from Emory University in Elementary Education. After graduation, she taught in the Fulton County School System for nine years before receiving a Master's Degree in Education from Stanford University. Upon moving to Charleston, Ann worked in Real Estate and later went back to teaching in the Charleston County School System. While raising her children, Ann was active in many civic organizations in and around Charleston. She served on the board of the Women's Council of the Gibbes Museum of Art, was President of the Women's Medical Society Auxiliary of South Carolina and volunteered for a number of years with Darkness to Light. Ann was a long-time member of St. Philip's Church and was especially fond of her Wednesday Ladies Bible Study that she attended regularly at St. Michael's Church. She loved the mountains, specifically Highlands, NC, where she spent many years of her youth learning about and enjoying nature. Ann enjoyed many trekking trips all over the world. When not traveling, she was happiest spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her "Mimi." Ann is survived by her three children: Robert Francis Marion IV and his wife, Swain, Rebecca "Becky" Marion Blakeney and her husband, Bennett and David Francis Marion and his wife, Sarah; grandchildren: Walker Marion Condon and husband, Tyler, Robert Banks Marion, William Reid Marion, Henry Connor Marion, Bryce Katherine Marion, Vea Grace Marion and Francis Bond Marion; and two great-grandchildren: Clarence Marion Condon and Elizabeth McSwain Condon. Memorials may be made to the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center, 1061 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403 or to St. Philips Church, 142 Church Street, Charleston, SC 29401. We were sorority sisters at Emory University many long years ago. What a determined strong lady she was and will be remembered with love that way.
