Marie Kohn Obituary

KOHN, Marie Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of March 8, 2009. Marie Claire Kohn. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services Friday, March 13, 2009 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL at eleven o'clock. Interment, Red Bank Cemetery near Swansea, SC. Friends may call at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel Thursday between five-thirty and seven-thirty o'clock. Marie was born December 19, 1914 in Columbia, SC, the daughter of John Terry and Maria Martin Terry. She was the youngest of eleven children growing up on their farm in Columbia. She attended Dentsville High School before coming to Charleston and working at the Charleston Cigar Factory. She also met her future husband in Charleston. He was in the U.S. Navy and this took them to California. Marie was in sales most of her time in California and eventually owned a hotel news stand and then a gift shop. She returned to the south to be closer to family in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. She was a member of Citadel Square Baptist Church and before retiring, took care of the sweet infants in the church daycare. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Kohn of Charleston, SC; step-son, David Kohn and his family and several sweet and precious nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by an infant son and her sisters and brothers. She was a most very sweet and beautiful lady who will be so greatly missed.
