Marie Gosnell Obituary

Marie Gosnell CHARLOTTE, NC - Marie Dovre Gosnell, 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025 in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Marie attended St. Andrews High School, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Doug Gosnell, in 1963. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure, living in various places across South Carolina, raising a family, and forming lifelong friendships. At the age of 36, as a working mother, Marie returned to school to pursue her passion for helping others. She earned both an undergraduate and Master's degree in Speech Pathology. To no one's surprise, she graduated at the top of her class. Her dedication to her field reflected her deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. Marie was an avid tennis player who also enjoyed camping and water skiing with her young family. A gifted painter, her artistic talent was recognized with awards spanning over four decades. Even after suffering a stroke in 2013, she continued to create beautiful works of art that inspired those around her. Friends and family remember Marie as vivacious, happy, smart, positive, and kind - a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. Marie is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Doug Gosnell; her son, Scott (Patti) of Charlotte; her daughter, Becca (Denise) of Charleston; three cherished grandchildren: C.P., Lily, and Jackson; and her brother, Al Dovre of Charleston. She will also be deeply missed by her best friend of 70 years, Jackie Wall of Columbia. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Marie's dedicated care team, Fergie, Jennifer and Julie, who cared for her at home for a decade; her art teacher, Charlynn; and the staff at Brightmore Health Center. No services are planned at this time. Cards may be sent to Doug Gosnell at 10225 Old Ardrey Kell Rd., Apt 235, Charlotte, N.C. 28277.
