I continue to remember and grieve the loss of Dr. Goodloe. She brought so much to the principals in the Corpus Christi ISD and to the many students who experienced the results of her efforts. I missed her support after she left the district. Changing Schools and bringing equality and quality in education is not and was not an easy task. Her family can certainly be proud of her endeavors.

After all these years, I still miss her. As I am in my 40th year of public education (20 years in administration), I invoke her name frequently to all of the Assistant Principals I have trained to become Principals. Maria is the "gold standard" for leadership. She set the mark high, and all of us who knew her are better because of that.

I will always remember her love for the children. I had the extreme pleasure of meeting and visiting with her mother who told me of the wonderful children she raised. Maria and her mother both graduated from the same high school in Omaha, Nebraska as my mother did. Maria was the kindest person and loved and appreciated by so many of us. God bless you always.

It was an honor to work under her leadership while I was teaching in the Charleston County Public School System. She worked tirelessly to ensure academic success for every child. I was mortified to hear of her passing. But, her legacy will live on through the lives of thousands of children across this country. God Bless and keep her family,

To the Johnson Family:
"Remembrance is love's greatest gift"! What a gift she was and always will be to "our children" who are left with her legacy of education! She would want us to continue this legacy of "giving" every child the opportunity to achieve their every dream! She was a servant who gave her very best,and now she will hear "Servant of God" well done, come rest from thy labor! Family, may God continue to bless you always! Former CCSD employee.

To the Family of Maria Goodloe-Johnson:
I had the pleasure of hiring Maria to teach at Hinkley High School in 1981. I remember telling my Assistant Administrators that I had just interviewed a fanastic young teacher that will be an outstanding addition to our school. Having the pleasure to watch her grow as an excepitional teacher, administrator and beautiful person during her career has been a wonderful memory in my lifetime.
As our motto at Hinkley stated, Maria was truly a "FLIGHT ABOVE THE REST".
Her family is our thoughts and prayers during this very sad time.

One of the great regrets of my life was knowing Maria and her family for such a short period of time. Maria was an elegant woman who gave her passion to her family and her professional committment to the betterment of the education for all. She was a bright light during her brief life in Michigan and will be missed by all - especially her church family in Grosse Pointe. To Bruce family, you will always have a home in Michigan and we wish you peace at this difficult time.

Dear Bruce: You will certainly need all of what you grew along the lines of Faith from the Seminary now. "These are the times that try men's souls." Pray for guidance and wisdom to direct you as Little Maya grows up into a shadow of her mother, and I am sure she will. She had two very strong women to direct her early development, and with their imprints being left on her soul, I know she will become a phenomenal woman with you to direct and guide her.
The appearance of death is but a paradox, in that it leads into the portal of eternal life for all of us, and Dr. Maria is no exception. Bid her a goodnight/morning, as the darkness has turned to day, and she lives somewhere beyond the sunset where there is no darkness; when you travel toward the SON, you will never see shadows. Remember II Cor. 4:18: "...For we look not at things which can be seen. Things which can be seen are temporary, and things which cannot be seen are eternal." She has returned to the Omnipresence, Omniscience and Omnipotence of God in Oneness with Infinite, eternal, changeless and unchanging Life.
"Though her soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light, she loved the stars too fondly, to be fearful of the night."

Dr. Goodloe touched many lives during her leadership in the Corpus Christi Independent School District. Mine was no exception. She was a truly amazing woman and had all the admirable qualities we all strive for as professional educators. Maria was Intelligent; Passionate; Committed; Enthusiastic; Professional; Positive; a True Leader; A Real Go-Getter! She was also extremely "Approachable" and empathetic, which were qualities that strengthened her relationships with her staff. She will be fondly remembered for her all of these and more! She's in a better place right now
Than she's ever been before;
All pain is gone; she's now at rest;
Nothing troubles her anymore.
It's we who feel the burden of
Our sadness and our grief;.
We have to cry, to mourn our loss,
Before we get relief.
We know we'll reconnect with her
At the end of each life's road;
We'll see her cherished face again
When we release our earthly load.

To the Goodloe-Johnson family:
May you be comforted in the loving arms of the Lord.
Dr. Goodloe-Johnson was a very friendly and an approachable Superintendent of Charleston County Schools who cared about all students of all districts. When I called her office in 2004 and asked if she would do a meet and greet and a live panel discussion on my talk show "Heaven Talk" on WXTC Heaven 1390 AM radio being broadcasted live from St. John's High School, she did not hesitate to say, Yes! She did not discriminate, whether the school was in the bright lights of the city limits or whether they were in the dim lit streets of the rural towns, Dr. Goodloe-Johnson would be on the scene to talk with students, parents, and the community alike. She was a true soldier for education and children. Thank you Dr. Goodloe-Johnson for time well served, you were truly a "Change Agent" for education in this century!

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside still waters,
he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23

I thank God for allowing Dr. Goodloe-Johnson to come our way. She DID leave Charleston County School District better than she found it. May God continue to bless the Goodloe-Johnson family during this time.

To the Goodloe-Johnson Family,
May God keep and bless you during this difficult time. When I worked at Burke High School it gave me great pleasure knowing that the "Big Boss" downtown was Dr. Maria Goodloe-Johnson. I admired and respected Dr. Goodloe-Johnson for she was a true woman of God who fought for the well being of all of our children. I was so sad when she moved to Seattle. Thank you family for sharing her with the Tri-County. Dr. Goodloe-Johnson rest in peace (my soror) for your time on this earth was a blessing for so many.
