Maria Byrne Obituary

Maria Del Carmen Tancredi Garcia Byrne, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 26th, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by her children. Born on August 12th, 1940, in Salerno, Italy, to the late Nicola Tancredi and Carmen Garcia, Maria's life was a remarkable journey marked by love, dedication, and a resilient spirit that touched everyone she met. She was blessed to share 55 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Lawrence Emerson Byrne, until his passing in 2020. Together, they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and shared adventure, journeying together across states and seas, making each place they lived a home. Maria had a deep love for her family and took great pride in caring for them. Her home was always filled with warmth and laughter. Friends and neighbors could always find Maria working outside, finding peace in tending to her yard. She spent over 25 years serving her community as an employee of the DOD DeCa, where she was known for her work ethic and commitment. In her retirement, she spent time traveling with her husband and grandchildren across the country, creating memories that will live on in the hearts of those she loved. She is survived by her children: Frank Nicola Byrne (Karen), Ellen Byrne Ratcliffe (James), and Alexander Scott Byrne (Maxyel); her sister, Antonia Tancredi Garcia; five grandchildren:Josephine, Jacqueline, Jasmine, Shelby, and Adriana, and six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. A service will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery on Thursday, October 9th, 2025, beginning at 2:00pm. All are welcome to attend in her honor.
