Marguerite Logan Obituary

Marguerite "Pep" M. Logan SEABROOK ISLAND, SC - Marguerite "Pep" M. Logan, 91, of Seabrook Island, South Carolina, wife of James P. Logan, entered into eternal rest Friday, September 13, 2024. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 in the Johns Island Presbyterian Church, 2550 Bohicket Road, at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Johns Island Presbyterian Churchyard. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel. Marguerite was born September 3, 1933 in New York, New York, daughter of the late Donald McLaughlin and Aileen Puffer McLaughlin. She was named for her Godmother, Marguerite McKenzie, who would be a loving influence during her early years. Marguerite, or Pep, as she was fondly nicknamed, was raised in Tenafly, New Jersey along with her older brother, Donald. She attended Maugham Elementary School, and Tenafly High School. It was there that she met James P. Logan, the love of her life. They just recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2024. Marguerite attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia from 1951-1954 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Houston in 1955 with a B.S. degree in chemistry. From 1957-1960, she worked at the University of Virginia as a Microanalyst while her husband finished up his law degree there. After moving back to Tenafly, N.J., the years were spent raising her two children along with participating in, and in many cases directing, countless community service organizations including the Junior League of Bergen County, the Volunteer Center, and the Englewood Hospital Volunteer Program. She was also active in many service areas of The Presbyterian Church at Tenafly. In her retirement, she enjoyed coordinating the Seabrook Island Blood Drive, volunteering at the South Carolina Aquarium, helping in the classroom at St. John's High School, and singing in the JIPC choir. Marguerite enjoyed tending to her African violets, bird watching, and doing endless New York Times crossword puzzles. Her athletic abilities were outstanding, beginning with her cheerleading years in high school. She loved to horseback ride. She ran 5 New York Marathons, played many rounds of golf and actually had 2 holes-in-one on the same hole! She enjoyed traveling and her travels took her to many international destinations-always with James and usually to visit or travel with her children or grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Katherine F. Shipley (Ivan); son, James P. Logan Jr. (Laura); grandchildren, Ashley M.Teater, Christie L. Sellers (James "Scott"), and Tyler P. Logan; and three great-grandchildren, Kennedy Teater, Margaret Sellers, and James "Patrick" Sellers. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald McLaughlin; and sister-in-law, Janet. There remain numerous nephews and nieces on both sides of the family who have experienced her loving kindness. Her life was packed full with activities, friends and family making it so difficult to describe in one obituary. Further stories and memories will be shared at her funeral. She was the heart of our family and will be missed beyond words. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Parkinson's Research, Johns Island Presbyterian Church or to the Red Cross Blood Drive.
