Margie-Thomas Cogswell Obituary

Margie-Thomas McCaffrey Cogswell Charleston - Margie-Thomas McCaffrey Cogswell, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of William Harvey Cogswell, III, entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 10, 2016. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2016 in Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth Street, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel. Margie was born September 8, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Charles G. McCaffrey and Rial Roberts McCaffrey. She graduated from The Ellis School in Pittsburgh and The Mary Lyon School in Swathmore, PA. She was a member of Grace Church Cathedral. Throughout her over 70 years in Charleston, Margie was active in The Association for the Blind (past chair and board emeritus positions); Ladies Benevolent Society (past Superintendent); Magnolia Cemetery (board member); Grace Church Cathedral (flower guild); Charleston Garden Club and Ivy Garden Club. She enjoyed her leisure time playing bridge and painting. She also enjoyed golf as both a player and a spectator. "Mams", as known by family, is survived by a son and daughter, Connor M. Cogswell of Sewickley, PA and Anne Cogswell Burris (Lon) of Charleston, SC, as well as daughter-in-law, Sarah A. Rhett (Edmund). She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Sarah Hamlin Hastings (Matt) and William S. Cogswell, Jr. (Lucile) of Charleston; Julius C. Cogswell of Los Angeles, CA; Ellen B. Cogswell and Katye R. Fayard (Tres) of New Orleans, LA; T. Scott Burris (Harriet) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; William A. Burris (Katie) of Scottsdale, AZ; and Carrie B. Little (Sam) of Charleston. Mams was fortunate to have ten great-grandchildren: Jack, Charlie, Thomas and Henry Hastings; Mason and Meade Cogswell; Mackie and Evelyn Ieyoub; Thomas Burris and Birdie Burris. She was preceded in death by her son, William Scott Cogswell; and two grandsons: J. McCaffrey Cogswell and Benjamin W. Burris. The family is forever grateful for the loving, kind and Christian care provided by Bishop Gadsden, BG Connections, Hospice of Charleston and Evelina Washington. Margie's journey was a true experience by all who watched over her, and she remained her strong self to the end. Memorials may be made to Ladies Benevolent Society Of The City Of Charleston, P.O.
