Margie LaPorte Obituary

Margie H. LaPorte N. CHARLESTON - Margie H. LaPorte, the daughter of the late George M. Huggins II and Louise J. Huggins, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023 in the presence of her family. She was born and raised in Aynor, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard J. LaPorte and her son, James Clayton LaPorte. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Holliday and husband, Andrew, Valerie McGill and husband, John, Darren LaPorte and wife, Camille, daughter-in-law, Lillian LaPorte. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and siblings, Zelda Housand, George Huggins III, and Jennie Lee Hunter. Most mornings, "MeMa" could be found walking around her yard enjoying the flowers and her summer garden. When not at home, she could be seen dancing with the Summerville Shag Club at multiple venues around town. Another lifelong love has been casting a rod in any body of water. She loved fishing whether in a boat or on the bank- just tell her the day and she was ready. Painting was a hobby that she shared with her sister, Zelda. They would have the best time talking, critiquing, and snacking on Moon pies. Her family will miss her "MeMa-isms" and her love of people and life. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Carolina Memorial Funerals & Cremation, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Carolina Memorial Chapel. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.carolinamemorial.com for the LaPorte family.

In our lives there are many people that have had profound influences in our lives. Aunt Margie and Uncle Maynard have been two of those people. I have always looked up to them with the highest respect. Aunt Margie was a loving and extraordinary caring woman. We would lovingly aggravate each other and enjoy every minute of it. Barbara and I are truly blessed to have had her for an aunt. She will always be missed. We love you all.

There is no one that I have ever met that was kinder, more loving than Margie (Maynard was not far behind) . When I started my Oral Surgery Practice in 1976, I was a co-worker, using a single operatory in Dr Robinson´s office. Margie was the heart and soul, teaching us all kindness, empathy and professionalism.
I have loved her and stayed in touch with the La Portes ever since.
I am certain that she is walking God´s Garden as I write this.

Margie was such a sweet and caring lady. I had the pleasure of meeting up with her on many occasions dancing. I loved to watch her work a room by sharing a dance with young and older. She had nothing but sweet comments to others throughout the room. She always carried a sweet smile even though you knew she did not feel well. She rarely shared her pain but, the smile and kindness Margie always shared will be greatly missed.
