Margaret Wells Obituary

WELLS, Margaret PAULINE, SC - Margaret Ezell Wells, 81, of 3670 Highway 56, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at White Oak Estates. Born June 16, 1924, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Walter Orlando and Nora Pettit Ezell. A graduate of Queens College and Converse College, she was a former teacher at Arbutus Elementary School in Baltimore, MD. She was a member of the Mountainview Nursing Home Board of Directors, South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, PRIDE Beautification Committee for the City of Spartanburg, a Master Gardener, and an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Girl Scouts of the Piedmont Area Council, serving as both a troop leader, and during the early to mid-70s, as a member of the Board of Directors. In addition to her involvement with girls and the Council, fellow Girl Scout members recall that Margaret was also very active in the local garden club. Through Mrs. Wells' involvement in the Garden Club, she not only brought wildflower planting to Camp Mary Elizabeth, but she also engaged other members of her Garden Club to establish and maintain wildflowers around the property. Mrs. Wells was known for her work specifically with the wildflower trail along the stream through the property. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Clyde O. Wells, Jr.; two daughters, Margaret Wells Hayslip and her husband Warren of Chapel Hill, NC, and Janet Wells Scarborough and her husband George of Charleston; two sisters, Bertha McArthur of Spartanburg, and Joyce Kidd of Birmingham, AL; two brothers, Frank Ezell and Earl Ezell, both of Spartanburg; four grandchildren, Greg and Katie Hayslip, and Rachel and Edward Scarborough; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Tina Chapman Wells. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Trinity United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. T. Lee Bryant, Jr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Margaret Wells Memorial Fund, c/o Girl Scouts of the Piedmont Area Council, 349A East Blackstock Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301. I am deeply sorry to hear about Margaret's death. I will always remember her well because she always brought a smile to my face every time I saw her. My wife & I fondly remember her visit to see us at the University of Georgia Botanical Garden in the mid-80's. We toured the rose garden together. She was always my favorite aunt.
