Margaret Mahood Obituary

Margaret (Whitney) Mahood

Margaret Whitney Mahood, our dear Maggie, was born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, on the twenty fourth of November, nineteen hundred and forty two and passed peacefully from this world on the sixteenth of March, twenty fourteen at her residence in Wilmington, Delaware. And though she has traveled to our Father's home, entering gratefully as a servant humble in service, mindful, dedicated and loving, her spirit remains through the many people whose lives she has touched.

As a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, friend and devoted follower of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Maggie is lovingly remembered and carried dear in our hearts' souls.

She was the loving daughter of, and survived by, the Reverend Gordon W. Whitney and the departed Marguerite E. Whitney. Maggie was a loving and devoted wife of Robert F. (Bob) Mahood, who predeceased her in 2007. She is also survived by her most loving children: Robert W. Mahood and wife Cheryl, Alan F. Mahood, James S. Mahood and wife Chenjean, Marjorie Mahood Williamson and husband Ted, Michael M. Mahood and Margot Lilly Johnson and husband Dennis. Siblings Gordon W. Whitney, John H. Whitney, and Martha W. Rowe will carry her in their hearts. To her continual delight, Grandmaggie was blessed by and completely relished in the love of her nine grandchildren: Brian Mahood, Melanie Lilly Castle, Lauren Mahood Inbody, Andrew Mahood, Jennifer Mahood, Allison Mahood, and Ryan, Chase and Zachary Williamson; and one great granddaughter, Naomi Castle. Maggie was devoted to, and loved by, all of her extended family.

Maggie was a lifelong Christian, and devoted member of Silverside Church. An active choir member for over 30 years, she also served on the church's Fellowship Committee. Maggie will also be remembered for her many years of professional service as the Executive Director of the Delaware Society of CPAs. She also enjoyed the company of her dear Book Club friends for over thirty years and was an active Rotarian until her death.

Maggie and Bob were very fortunate to have been able to enjoy traveling to many countries after Bob's retirement from DuPont and her retirement from the Delaware Society of CPAs. But their special place was always North Topsail Island, North Carolina.

Maggie is known for her strength of character and perseverance in the face of life's obstacles. Her contagious laughter and love of music filled our days with joy that will continue throughout our lives. Slight in stature but powerful in character, Maggie was a dedicated friend and mentor to all who knew her. The memory of her charitable spirit and her love of life will lighten our loads for the rest of our short time on earth.

A Memorial Service will be held at Silverside Church on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 2pm, where friends may call between 1 and 2pm. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Silverside Church.

Many fond memories working with Maggie during the early days of starting our Firm in 1988 and many years thereafter working with the DS of CPAs. We appreciated her guidance, demeanor, perspective and sense of humor. We appreciated her!

Maggie was a pleasure to work with at the DSCPA. She helped me navigate the early years of my career for which I am very grateful. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy as she joins the heavenly choir to sing the Lord's praises. May he be your comfort and strength during this sad time.

Working with Maggie was a great pleasure. As the executive director of the PICPA, we had identical missions for our CPA members and many belonged to both organizations. We attended many of the same meetings and worked on many AICPA and CPASEA Committees. This provided me with the opportunity to truly appreciate her professional skills and get to know her as a great person. My thoughts are prayers are with her and her family.

I enjoyed working with Maggie during my years of involvement with the DSCPA. I have a fond memory of a function we attended in Atlanta and my back went out the morning of the meeting. Maggie arranged for me to get to the doctor and then made sure I had the filet mignon lunch brought to my room! She also was a big help on the flight home. Great person, great under pressure, helped our society prosper. My prayers are with her and her family.

I met Maggie in 1988 soon after returning to Delaware to start my Company and had the pleasure of working closely with Maggie for the next 5 years in a variety of roles within the DSCPAs. Maggie's high character ethic was readily apparent, especially her high level of integrity and empathy. She helped me navigate my way as a new member to the CPA profession in Delaware and helped coordinate my interactions with the Society. Many warm memories of my times with Maggie...one of those angels who touched many in her life! With thoughts and prayers for her soul and her family.

It was my pleasure to have worked with Maggie when I was an officer of the DSCPA many years ago. She was a great executive director and set the stage the organization we have today. My wife and I spent many fun times with Maggie and Bob on our DSCPA trips. She will be missed for her professionalism and pragmatism in running the DSCPA.
