Margaret Hendricks Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Bowers Hendricks CHARLESTON - Margaret "Peggy" Bowers Hendricks, departed this life surrounded by her loving family on January 11, 2013. She was born in Charleston, SC, on March 8, 1931, a daughter of the late Dr. Theodore Ellis Bowers and Eliza Buie McEachern Bowers. She attended Ashley Hall, Saint Genevieve of the Pines in Asheville, NC, and later returned home to graduate from Ashley Hall in 1949. She attended The College of Charleston prior to her marriage in 1951. She was a member of St. Philip's Church and was active in planning and co-hosting events for the youth with the Episcopal Church Women. She was a member of the Rebecca Motte Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, an avid supporter of the Mill Prong House preservation in Raeford, NC, served on the board of Miss Mason's School and the Charleston Speech and Hearing Clinic. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and beloved matriarch to a host of many other children in the Charleston community. Peggy's greatest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ralph Martin Hendricks,her 3 daughters, Lynn H. Hills and husband John; Anne H. Crawford and husband Lex; and Buie H. Shisko and husband Joe; 2 sons Theodore M. Hendricks and wife Brucie; and Ralph M. Hendricks, Jr. and wife Jennifer, all of Charleston. Peggy, affectionately known as Mommee, is also survived by her grandchildren: Thomas Hutto and wife Lindsay, Eliza Cantwell and husband Josh, Brucie Smith and husband Jacob, Teddy Hendricks, Mary Crawford, Torrey Crawford, Spencer Crawford, Anne Merrill Crawford, McEachern Hendricks, Lawton Hendricks, Sarah Bryce and husband Mike, Joseph Shisko, Seabrook Shisko, and McKinnon Shisko; 3 great-grandchildren Bowers Cantwell, and Sophie and Ella Bryce, her sister, Elizabeth Boswell of Norfolk, VA; her niece Ellen, nephew Malcolm, and all of her loving angels: Trish, Eula, Janee, Annette, Dolores, Sophie, Regina, Fran, and Mary. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph M. Hendricks are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:00 PM Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Graveside, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the Carolina Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mill Prong Preservation, Inc., P.O.
