Margaret Ferri Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Ferri MT. PLEASANT - Margaret Maginn Ferri, age 101, known to all as "Peggy", and the widow of Ferdinand E. "Ferdy" Ferri, entered into eternal rest at her home in Mt. Pleasant, SC, on August 30, 2024. Peggy was born at Station 24 on Sullivan's Island, SC, on March 27, 1923, to George Bernard and Nora Scharlock Maginn. A graduate of Bishop England High School and Sacred Heart College, she was active in drama and sports. A proud "Island Girl," Peggy recorded, at age 98, her memories of life on Sullivan's Island for the Low Country Digital Library. In 1944, she married Ferdy Ferri, then an Army Captain, who had grown up near her at Station 24. Their happy marriage of 46 years was founded on their shared Catholic faith. Peggy was a devout member of Stella Maris Catholic Church, where she was baptized and received her First Holy Communion. She prayed the Rosary daily and was devoted to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. She taught for over a decade at Christ Our King-Stella Maris School. Peggy will always be remembered as a wise and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Numerous charities serving poor children benefitted from her life-long generosity. Besides her husband, Ferdy, Peggy was predeceased by her brothers and sisters and their spouses: Bernard Maginn (Dorothy), John Maginn (Leslie), Catherine Simmons (William), Frances Frizelle (Louis), Mary Soffera (Joseph), and Helen "Buddy" Maginn. She is survived by her children: Michael (Mary), Edward (Brenda), Mary Ferri Jones, and Paul (Gail), and by nine grandchildren: John, Thomas, Katie, Michael, Matthew, Shannon, Allison, Brian, and Kelly. She also is survived by seventeen great-grandchildren. The family offers special thanks to her thoughtful caregivers - Kendra Garrett, Jaime Smith, Karen Tucker, Mila Garro, Joyce Hamilton, Tammy Scott, Jasmine White, and Linda Jenkins. Friends of the family are invited to Peggy's visitation on Thursday, September 5th, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, September 6th, at 12:00 noon, at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle St., on Sullivan's Island. The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Stella Maris Church Building Fund. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at www.mcalister-smith.com.
