Margaret Ellis Obituary

Margaret Gilliam Ellis, 87, of Sanford, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Katherine Dudley and the Rev. David Dudley officiating.Burial will be at Pocket Presbyterian Cemetery.Mrs. Ellis was born Feb. 4, 1921. She was the daughter of Maggie Poe and George M. Gilliam. She was born and raised in the West Pocket Community outside Sanford. She graduated from Sanford High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.Mrs. Ellis joined Pocket Presbyterian at an early age. After her marriage she moved her membership to First Presbyterian Church in Sanford where she was very active in the work of the church. She was a charter of the Pine Needles Garden Club.Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her husband, John Carroll Ellis; three brothers, George Mack Gilliam, Frank McCrae Gilliam and John Waite "Dub" Gilliam.Mrs. Ellis is survived by two daughters, Martha E. Creech and husband Charles Wayne of Tarboro, and Rhenda E. Iverson and husband Gerald G. of Southport; three grandchildren, Charles "Chuck" Creech Jr. and wife Mary of Wilson, Kara Cvijanovich and husband Mike of Apex, and Jennifer Ginn and husband John of Ridgewood, N.J; six great-grandchildren. Elise Lane, Charlie Creech, Katlin and Megan Cvijanovich, and Grace and Jack Ginn; and two sister-in-laws, Evon Oldham Gilliam, and Virginia Dowdy Gilliam.Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria VA 22312 or to the American Heart Association 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen VA 23060.Funeral arrangements are by Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.Paid obituary
