Aug. 17, 1933 - April 5, 2005
Malcolm Evan Baker of Albany died Tuesday at home with his family and loved ones by his side.
Malcolm was born in Seward, Neb. He moved to Omaha at age two and then to Portland in 1943. He graduated from Tigard High School and then earned a Bachelor of Arts in accounting at Lewis and Clark in 1956.
Malcolm served in the Army at Fort Lewis, Wash., for two years. After returning home, he married Lois R. Wirkkala on Oct. 10, 1958, in Portland. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2000. He cared for her for 10 years through her illness.
Malcolm was past president of East Albany Lions Club, the Linn Benton Chapter of Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Linn-Benton Community College Foundation.
Malcolm was a past member of Linn County Red Cross and the Montieth Historical Society. Malcolm was the current treasurer of the Linn-Benton Community College Foundation and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was a founding partner in the certified public accounting firm of Brudvig, Baker, Johnson and Smith since his move to Albany in 1964.
Malcolm was an avid golfer, scoring a 79 as his best game ever. He loved to travel, watch the Seattle Mariners, drink Spanish Coffees, spend time with his friends and being a grandfather. We will miss him dearly.
Malcolm Baker is survived by three children, Matthew Evan Baker, Barry Thomas Baker and Amy Jo Baker; and four grandchildren, Ashleigh, Mitchell, Mackenzie and Kendall; and his partner, LaVerne Bradley.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1910 34th Ave. S.E. in Albany.
Memorial contributions can be made to the National College Access Network in care of Fisher Funeral Home.
