It is difficult to imagine Porter-Gaud these days without Mrs. Tassin. She was an inspiration, and her saintly kindness knew no bounds. Her crocheted bookworms were quite the incentive to get us wily six year olds to read more. My sister and I consider ourselves fortunate indeed to have spent our first grade year in Mrs. Tassin's classroom.

If only every first-grader were as lucky as I was to have such a kind, patient, curious guide to welcome them into the wide world of school and learning. As my mom mentioned, I still treasure the reading pillow I made in her class (it's on my bed as I write this now). And I know I'm one of many that still have the 'bookworm' bookmarks she knitted for us as rewards for reading 100 books. Picking out the color for the bookworm was such a proud moment! I still remember standing in front of the bulletin board deciding between green and pink. The amount of time I spent debating between those two you would have though lives hung in the balance. In the year I spent in her classroom she imparted a strong sense of respect, adventure and compassion that guide me to this day, and I'm so thankful to have known her.

Dear Tassin Family,
You are in the thoughts and prayers of my parents, Bryan and Joy Anders, my sister, Allison Anders, and me. Like so many others, Allison and I had the great privilege of being in Mrs. Tassin's first grade class. What a magical experience that was! She ushered her students into the world of learning with great warmth and affection. Mrs. Tassin also followed her first graders as they grew older. Whenever I encountered her over the years, she greeted me with a big smile and warm embrace. I still have the pencil case she made and gave each of us when I was a first grader.
For my mother, Mrs. Tassin was a colleague, mentor, friend, and wonderful "across the hall neighbor" on the primary hall at Porter-Gaud. My mother treasures each of the "JOY" gifts and other handiwork given to her by Mrs. Tassin over the years.
Mrs. Tassin was a great lady and wonderful teacher. She will be missed by those who knew her.
Sincerely,
Andrea Anders

Dear Laura and family,
I was so very sad to see your mother's obituary in this morning's paper. I adored Mrs. Tassin, as did my children, Ben and Laura, and I give her credit for a good bit of their success in life. They still treasure the pillows they made with her in first grade (and the ones they made later with you, I think?) -- in fact, Laura took hers to college with her! -- and the afghans she knitted for them when they graduated from Porter-Gaud are heirlooms. For me, she was the grandmother I never had, and I am so grateful for all that she did for my children. I've forwarded her obituary to them, and I know they will share my sorrow but treasure the wonderful memories that she gave us. Please know that we are thinking of you and all of your family at this time of great loss.
With love,
Kate Adams
