Madelyn Knight Obituary

Madelyn Browning Knight RIDGEVILLE - Madelyn Browning Knight, 55, of Ridgeville, died Wednesday evening, April 13, 2011, after a long and difficult illness. Born in Summerville on January 22, 1956, she was the only daughter of John H. Browning and Mattie Lee Dowling Browning of Ridgeville. Madelyn graduated from Dorchester Academy and attended Columbia College where she was recognized as an outstanding art student. She was married to L. Furman Knight. They were blessed with a son, Losse Furman Knight, III, whom she always referred to as her "pride and joy." Most people know him as "Trey." Later, after her divorce, Madelyn worked as an historical interpreter at Charlestowne Landing and Dorchester State Parks. After Hurricane Hugo wrecked those state parks in 1989, Madelyn returned to commercial art doing signs and logos. Her signs appeared in front of many businesses and restaurants in Charleston. Her church signs at Ridgeville Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and Methodist and Lutheran churches in Moncks Corner as well as many other churches in Dorchester and Berkeley counties were especially rewarding. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2011, at PARKS FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL at 3 o'clock. Visitation will be from 2 o'clock until time of the service. Bishop Thomas Clayton, her pastor at World Harvest Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Bonnie Rest Cemetery in Ridgeville. Madelyn is survived by her son, L. F. Knight "Trey" and his wife, Heather of Mount Pleasant; mother, Mattie Lee Browning of Ridgeville; two brothers, John H. Browning, Jr of Ridgeville and Col. Robert (Robin) Browning and his wife Betsy of Lilburn, GA; three nieces and two nephews. Madelyn was deprived of active church services because of painful and serious health problems, but never wavered from close fellowship with her Lord. Miss Mattie and family, I am so very sorry about Madelyn. I am so shocked because I did not know that she was sick. I guess we were just out of touch. I have thought so much about our days growing up at D.A. and how much fun we had. She was such a bundle of joy all the time. She would light up a room when she walked in. I am so sorry she had so much pain but she has a new body now and will hurt no more. I will never forget the night she gave our basketball team our 1 point for the entire game and we put her in the shower!!! What a night!!! I love you Miss Mattie and always will. God bless you and I will try to see you soon. Love, Olivia Walters Wimberly Reevesville, S. C.

To Miss Mattie Lee and family, Madelyn was a wonderful person who I treasured to have known. I had lost touch with her many years ago after high school. An artist she was with a loving heart brings to my remembrance. A true dove has now flown to Heaven...
