Lynn Russin Obituary

RUSSIN, Lynn MIAMI - Lynn Dumas Russin, 69, died peacefully Saturday, October 4, 2008. Lynn is survived by her loving husband, David; her three children, Julie Russin Bercow (Jeffrey), Peter Russin (Andi), Elisabeth Russin Turner (Gareth); and her eight grandchildren, Alexandra, Olivia, Jake, Noah, Tony, Asher, Jackson and Benjamin. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Dumas Kaplan (Peter). Lynn was born in Charleston, South Carolina, the daughter of Abe and Dotty Dumas. She graduated from Tulane University where she met and fell in love with her husband David. After David completed his medical training, he and Lynn moved the family to Miami Beach, Florida where together they created a wonderful life for their family. Lynn always maintained the family house on Sullivan's Island in Charleston, South Carolina, where the family would congregate every summer. Her first grandchild, Alex, named her Gaga, which soon became her endearing nickname. Lynn was also philanthropic having founded the Russin Family Foundation as well as being a long time consistent supporter of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation as a Lion of Judah, the New World Symphony and a contributor to Spoleto, USA. Lynn was well known throughout Miami Beach and Charleston by many who loved her and will miss her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lynn Russin to the CAJE Florence Melton Mini-School, 4200 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, Florida 33137. I was so very sorry to read of Lynn's death. She and I grew up together in Charleston, were in the same class all through grade school at Ashley Hall, and then in high school at Rivers. We worked together on the school paper, the Senior Board and other things, and she was always smiling and upbeat. The last time I saw her was at a Rivers reunion several years ago, and she was as pretty and smiling as ever. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. She will always be a part of me and of my best memories.

Doc, Julie, Peter and Liz:

Please accept my love, and sincerest and deepest sympathies on the loss of your wife, mom and friend. Some of my most vivid childhood memories include Lynn, seeing her smiling face while she walked Rufus. She always had a way of making those around her feel special. Whether it was lending me a pair of Doc’s shoes for a special date or feeding me leftovers from the well-stocked fridge, she always made me feel like one of the family. Those memories taught me important lessons and will stay with me forever. I will miss her.
