Lydia von Hacke Obituary

von HACKE, Lydia Lydia Gabriela Countess von Hacke, loving mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2008. She was preceded in Heaven by her husband Wilhelm Hans Count von Hacke. Born October 13, 1914, her early years were spent in Silesia, East Germany, with her parents and two older sisters. She attended boarding schools and received a classical education. After her marriage, she and her husband lived on their estate in a medieval 11th century castle in Castle Alt Warthau, Kreis Bunzlau in lower Silesia. After the end of World War II they immigrated to the United States and lived on Deer Hall Plantation in Georgetown and also Sumter, South Carolina. As a widow, she moved to Decatur, Georgia. Lydia was considered a great beauty and was a muse for many a painter and poet. She moved through life with grace and gratitude. But her greatest accomplishments were in the love she demonstrated toward her family and friends. She had a generous spirit and went out of her way to create beauty from the simplest things in life. She loved birds singing, flowers in bloom, listening to opera and music in general, dancing and little parties with her friends. She leaves behind her devoted children, the Rev. Haco Wilhelm von Hacke, pastor of The Lutheran Church of the Messiah and his wife Michele Beasley von Hacke of Decatur, Georgia, and Astrid Erica von Hacke de Rodriguez and her husband Ruben Dario Rodriguez Teran of Palm Beach, Florida and a grandson Eric Allen von Hacke, who is a senior at the University of Georgia in Athens. A memorial service will be held at 4:00PM on Sunday, March 2 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 465 Clairemont Avenue in Decatur with Rev. Carla Knobler officiating and Rev. Joe LaGuardia, Chaplain of Clairmont Oaks assisting. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

Muu Muu, Our hearts are heavy and we will always have an empty space for you and all your love, your beautiful notes that you always wrote us even for the least little visit, gifts, phone calls, and the "ice cream parties" you, Phil , Elaine and "DeVere would have, BUT MOST IMPORTANT, OUR THANKS FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS. Our whole family will cherish and remember you , always Love, Phil, Elaine and "DeVere" and Cliff, Sharon and Christy

Haco, I read this morning of your mother's passing. How fortunate you were to have had her so many years. Someone has said that when a boy loses his mother he has lost his best friend. I certainly found that to be true.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sister.

Your mother is beautiful in the photo and I am sure that she was as beautiful in real life.

All my best to you.
