Lucy Peters Obituary

Lucy Marie Peters CHARLESTON - Lucy Marie Peters, 57, of Charleston, SC passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at her residence in Johns Island, South Carolina. She was born on Sunday, May 15, 1955 in Charleston, SC to the late Ann Patricia Jones Peters and Lester G. Peters. Lucy was the Executive Director of the SC Association of Auto Insurance Agents. She was also a member of the Continuing Education Board for the SC Insurance Department. She was the past President of the Charleston Association of Insurance Women. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Lucy was an avid reader, loved to cook, loved children, and was well known for the fence on Johns Island that she decorated every holiday. She is preceded in death by one brother, John Steven Peters. Survivors include one sister, Nancy Peters Bailey and her husband Bernard, of Savannah, GA; three brothers, Lester Peters, of Charleston, Tim Peters and wife, Kay, of Virginia, and Patrick Peters and his wife, Pamela, of Florence; five nephews, Tim Peters, Tom Peters, Donnelly Peters, Patrick Bailey, and Nickolas Bailey; two nieces, Kristen Peters and Caroline Peters; and many "adopted" nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 6 PM to 8 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley Chapel. Funeral Service will be at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 10 AM with Msgr. Charles H. Rowland officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 409 King Street Charleston, SC 29403. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at www.mcalister-smith.com. Lester and Patricia, Judy called me last night to let me know about Nancy. Please accept our deepest sympathy. I have so many wonderful memories of Lucy. I met her through Insurance Women of SC, and then worked with her in other facets of the insurance industry. Lucy always had a smile on her face - and was a joy to be around. She will be dearly missed.
