Lucille Hill Obituary

Lucille Hill Mt. Pleasant - Lucille B. Hill, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Vernon Arthur Hill, Sr., entered into eternal rest Friday, April 9, 2021. A private graveside service will be held in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. She was born January 4, 1930, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and was a resident of Charleston for many years. Lucille, or Cile, as she preferred to be called was the daughter of Preston Leroy Brooks and Myrtle Ruthie Hinson Brooks. Her mother passed away when she was 14 years old and she immediately shared the duties of the home. With her devotion and love, she took care of her younger siblings, got them off to school, and then rushed to get herself dressed and off to school. Education was her biggest desire and she aimed to excel. She attended Kings College in Charlotte and later, the University of West Virginia. Cile began her career in Charleston working for Davis Mechanical and a large industrial supply house (Cameron & Barkley), where she was the executive secretary for the president and vice president. Cile continued to support her brothers and sisters when they needed help with the love and affection she always displayed. While at the Methodist Church, she met Vernon Hill, her future husband. They were married in 1957. Vernon attended the University of South Carolina to study electrical engineering and this created a real effort on her part to work to supplement income and raise two children. She did so with the same love and dedication she always exemplified. Throughout the years, Cile continued to stress education, especially to her children and grandchildren. She was determined they all obtain the education needed for a successful life. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Vernon A. Hill, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Leigh Hill of Atlanta, GA and Elizabeth Haynes of Charleston, SC; son, Vernon A. Hill, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Jean Morris and Callie Marthers, of Rock Hill, SC; grandsons, Joshua Craver, and Charles Bartell III; granddaughters, Olivia Hill, Abigail Hill, and Haleigh Barber; great-grandchildren, Julian Craver and Jocelyn Jones; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Marion, Leon, Harold, Gerald, and Donald Brooks; and her sisters, Ermaleen Brooks Horton and Ann Boone. Today we are sad to lose such a wonderful individual as Cile. We know she is on that wonderful trip to join her Lord and Savior. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop Gadsden's Office of Charitable Giving and Communications, 1 Bishop Gadsden Way, Charleston, SC 29412.
