Louise Miller Obituary

Louise Miller Charleston - Louise Miller passed away peacefully at home on June 14. Louise was born in Bessemer, Alabama on December 31, 1929. She lived in Tuscaloosa and graduated from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Louise married William Ross Miller in June 1951, a love that lasted 70 years, producing four children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She is survived by daughter, Cathy Dezelon, daughter, Dee Miller Prince and son-in-law, George Prince, son, Jack Miller and daughter-in-law, Jean, and daughter, Sally and son-in-law, Greg Niemer, and grandchildren, Kirk and Matt Miller, Hannah and Nick Prince and Ross and Dugger Niemer. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in Christ Church Anglican, 2304 Highway 17 North, at 11:00 am. The Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. When she married Bill, the Navy moved them to Linwood, New Jersey, where they raised their family and where Louise made a lifetime of leadership in volunteer positions. Louise was President of the Navy Wives organization at the Naval Air Station in Pomona, NJ, President of the Charity League of Atlantic City, Vice President of the Holly Shores Girl Scout Council, a long-time local Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a member and Past President of the Children's Seashore House Auxiliary, President of the Episcopal Church Women, member of Altar Guild and Vestry of Christ Church in Somers Point, NJ, a Volunteer for March of Dimes. Louise was also a long-term member of the Miss America Pageant Hostess Committee and worked for the Atlantic City Convention Bureau. Louise was a loving, nurturing, and imaginative parent. She made Halloween costumes, delighted kids with her camp songs, and worked tirelessly raising four children. She also took great joy from her children and grandchildren! She raised her children to know that they could go out into the world and accomplish anything they set out to do. A friend to every child in the neighborhood, it was not unusual for a kid to come to the door and ask if "Mrs. Miller can come out and play". Louise and Bill moved to Charleston 15 years ago to escape the snow and be closer to family. They joined Christ Church and the Life Group. This wonderful group of people became a huge part of their lives! Louise served on the Altar Guild, hosted many coffee hours, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She also packed boxes for Sea Farers. The Life Group became dear friends who cruised together, traveled together, held monthly dinners, and prayed together. Louise was a volunteer at Hospice...one of those angels who have in turn, been with her these last weeks. Dinner at her table was her love language: Every Sunday, she pulled out all the stops, as well as the Lenox china, crystal, and silver. Feeding friends and family was her greatest gift she could give you. Louise leaves a legacy of love, faith, and service to others; a legacy that lives on through her children and grandchildren. I remember Louise very fondly from our time together in the Episcopal Church Women of Christ Church, Somers Point, NJ. She was a source of inspiration, kindness, and wisdom. Louise was always working to make life better for others. She was the first on the scene with a home-baked cake or casserole and words of comfort if anyone was in need. She was truly a great lady who is remembered with great affection, and I read of her passing with sadness.
