Lottie Summerall Obituary

Lottie Carolyn Summerall, 86, of St. Helena Island, SC, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, February 23, 2014 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Carolyn was born at home to John Austin Jones and Sallie Sue Hayes Jones on September 24, 1927 in Lewisburg, Tennessee and was raised in Lewisburg and Tullahoma, Tennessee. On February 17, 1945 she married Odis Crawford Summerall in Beaufort, SC and she worked for many years for the S.C. Forestry Commission, retiring in 1972. Carolyn was also an accomplished homemaker, seamstress, cook and gardener and she never met a dog or cat that she didn't love. In her last years she very much enjoyed watching the birds on the feeders outside of her sun room. She was preceded in death by her mother Sallie in 1943, her father John in 1970, her husband Odis in 1977, her brother Carl Allen Jones in 1989, her sister Flora Sue Lankas in 2003 and her sister Catherine Leona Collins in 2004. Carolyn is survived by three sons, David B. Summerall (Linda) of Frogmore, SC, John C. Summerall (Sharon) of Okatie, SC and Timothy A. Summerall of Beaufort, three Daughters, Cathleen S. Murphy (Frank) of Beaufort, Susan C. Summerall of Beaufort, and Barbara S. Fraley (Dennis) of Lake City, SC, a niece, Carmelita J. Hair (J.A.) of John's Island, SC and a nephew, William G. Lankas (Carolyn) of Sneads Ferry, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Suzette Mujica Grice (Tommy) of Mobile, Al, Scott Mujica (Sissy) of Beaufort, Christopher Polk (Rebecca) of Beaufort, Travis Polk of Beaufort, Craig Summerall (Gini) of Lexington, SC, Amellia Summerall Applegate of Beaufort, David Summerall of Dandridge, TN, Williams Summerall and Wesley Summerall both of Columbia, SC, and ten great grandchildren, Eric, Corey & Isabelle Mujica of Beaufort, Daniel Grice of Mobile, Al, James, Eliza & Emma Polk and Brody Applegate, all of Beaufort and Gray & McFall Summerall of Lexington, SC. A private memorial service will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery on Friday February 28, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation, PO Box 2233, Beaufort, SC. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
