Lottie Hudgens Obituary

Lottie Cummings Hudgens FLORENCE, SC - Lottie Cummings Hudgens entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Lottie was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 7, 1936. She was the youngest of three children to her parents, James Gordon and Edna Earle Cummings. The family moved to Summerville, SC while Lottie was at an early age. Lottie went on to attend Summerville High School where she graduated in the Class of 1954. After graduation, she continued her education, earning a Nursing degree from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1957. While working as a surgical nurse, she met and fell in love with a young resident doctor, Roy Edward Hudgens, Jr. Lottie and Roy were married in Summerville, SC in June of 1960. When Roy finished his residency in anesthesia in 1965, the couple moved to Florence, SC to begin their family life and raise their three sons. Throughout her life, Lottie maintained a strong relationship with God and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, seldom missing a Sunday of worship. Lottie was a member of the Sarah Blanton Sunday School Class, the Junior Welfare League, and the Medical Auxiliary. Lottie loved socializing with friends and family and was an avid member of several bridge clubs. While she most cherished her time raising her sons, Lottie also mentored surgical technicians in training at Florence Darlington Technical College and Bruce Hospital. She returned to work in the nursing field for several years in the 1970's. Lottie was also an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan attending regular season home football and basketball games for most of her life. Lottie is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Roy, sons, Eddie Hudgens (Monica) of Charleston SC, David Hudgens (Ming) of Columbia, SC and William Hudgens of Florence, SC. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Annie, Courtney, Hanson and Elizabeth, and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Newell and sister, Faustina. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Central United Methodist Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church Commons Area. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery will be private. Services are directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Memorials in honor of her life can be made to Central United Methodist Church and Florence County Disability Foundation. The family wishes to thank The Manor for the loving care they provided during the last year.

I am so sorry sad to hear of Lottie´s passing. Deepest condolences to the family. Everyone loved Lottie including our cat Whiskers who eventually decided to move-in with Lottie, Roy and Will. She loved all animals, adored her family, and was faithful to the church. Lottie was the best neighbor anyone could ask for. She looked after my family and we always anticipated her Christmas morning sweet rolls. We spent one New Year´s Eve together as well chatting by the fireplace. It´s the little things we miss the most. I´ve mourned her absence for some time. Rest in peace, "Mrs.Lottie" until we meet again. Peace and love to your precious family.
