Lorraine Rose Obituary

Lorraine "Rainy" Rose CHARLESTON - Mrs. Lorraine "Rainy" Rose, 83, of Charleston, SC, widow of Willis E. Rose, Sr. entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 27, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive, No. Charleston. The family will receive friends Tuesday in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Rainy was born June 30, 1931 in Providence, Rhode Island, daughter of the late Ted Atkins and Sadie Dias Atkins. She settled in Charleston as a teenager where she attended Bishop England High School. She raised her family in Charleston and was a member of Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church. Rainy was happiest when rocking babies as a volunteer at MUSC, crocheting baby hats, shoes and blankets for nursery babies and made many friends volunteering at Bon Secours/St. Francis Hospital. Rainy was honored by MUSC as "Volunteer of the Year" in 2003 and also honored as "Volunteer of the Year" by Bon Secours/St. Francis in 2009. She is survived by her three daughters, Theodora "Teddy" Rose (Jerry) Redmon, Cynthia (Charles) Straney and Robin Rose (Jack Mahony), all of Charleston, SC; sister, Faith (Jim) Meyer of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Stephen Whitson, Charles "Chaz" and Nina Garner-Straney of Charleston and Liberty Straney of Portland Oregon; one great-grandchild, Phillip Stephen Whitson, Jr. She is preceded in death by her son, Willis E. Rose, Jr. and her daughter, Deborah Rose Anderson. In memory of Lorraine Rose, memorials may be made to CRU, Campus Crusade for Christ International, 0533094 Chad and Elizabeth Young, P.O.
