Lori Jenkins Obituary

Lori Lee Jenkins CHARLESTON AND MARBLEHEAD, MA - Surrounded by family at home in Marblehead, MA, Lori Lee Jenkins died peacefully on April 10, 2022 at the age of 58. She was the beloved wife of Scott Willard Jenkins and loving mother to their two children - James and Jennifer. Lori was born on November 25, 1963 to Ken Mapp and Joy Conmy in Hollywood, Florida, where Ken and Joy had made a new home after growing up on Long Island and in upstate New York. A family move to Atlanta, Georgia when Lori was 12 brought her to the Redan School system, where she excelled in her studies and her high school passion - gymnastics. Lori went on to study Architecture at Clemson University, where she was also a member of Chi Omega - the beginning of many of her closest lifelong friendships. Lori's career began as an understudy to acclaimed architect, Joe Amisano in Atlanta before practicing corporate design with firms such as Osgood and Associates, where she was made a partner at the age of 29. At this time, Lori and Scott met, fell in love, and were married in Atlanta in October 1993. Lori then devoted her time to raising their two children in Atlanta and then Marblehead, MA, where they moved in early 1996. Despite Lori's southern roots, she endured the new climate and immediately embraced competitive sailboat racing and downhill skiing at every opportunity. Lori treasured her family and friendships, new and old. She saw the good in everyone, put everyone's interests and feelings before her own, and touched all those she encountered with her kindness and caring. Her smile lit up a room. As James and Jennifer grew in their independence and interests, Lori sat on the Tower School Board of Trustees, volunteered at Pingree School, took up new architecture roles with various firms in the Boston area, and designed a number of striking North Shore homes. More than anything, though, Lori loved supporting and spending time with family, and maintaining and developing deep friendships based on shared values. When Lori was not on the water or the slopes, she excelled in yoga and its spirituality, loved experimenting with various art forms, keeping her flowers healthy, and getting into a good book. After patiently embracing New England winters, Lori was ready for a seasonable escape, which she and Scott found in a historic home in Charleston, South Carolina. Lori relished the beautiful spring weather, the historic and dynamic lifestyle of the City's historic district and most of all, the ability to reconnect with nearby family and her Clemson Tigers. She was happiest on a harbor sail with friends, a day at the beach, a low-key cookout with new neighbors, or kayaking the peaceful marshes at sunset. Lori is deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved husband of 28 years, Scott Willard Jenkins, and her children, James of Boston, MA and Jennifer of Newport Beach, CA, her parents, Ken Mapp and Joy Conmy, and her brother, Steve Mapp and sister, Kristy Bedell. A memorial celebration will be held in the summer. Lori asked that any gestures are directed to her Oncologist, Dr. Pasi Jnne, and his research team: https://jannelab.org/donate (search for Lori Jenkins or Lori's Page).
