Loretta Feigl Obituary

FEIGL, Loretta Entered into eternal rest on the evening of April 15, 2006, after battling cancer, Loretta Thompson Feigl, wife of Frank Lynn Feigl. Residence, Charleston, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lynn Feigl are invited to attend the Graveside Services of the latter on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, in Holy Cross Cemetery at three thirty o'clock. Friends may call at Ashley River Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, between one and three o'clock. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Mrs. Feigl was born July 24, 1932, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter of the late Richard Thompson and Myrtle Lee Hall Thompson. She graduated from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, IN, serving as a majorette for the high school band. Mrs. Feigl attended Indiana University Normal College of the American Gymnastics Union for two years on scholarship. She received her B.S. degree in Physical Education, with a minor in Health Education in 1954 from Indiana University. She received her M.S. degree in Health and Physical Education, with a minor in Math, from Indiana University on scholarship in 1965. She took additional post graduate courses at The Citadel and the College of Charleston. She began her teaching career in Indiana, moving to the Charleston area in 1957, where she retired from teaching in 1995 with the Charleston County Public School System. Loretta's former students will remember her as the teacher who did cartwheels for them at the beginning of each school year, until she retired, and as a teacher who was strict but fair. She is survived by her husband of 51 years of Charleston; a son, Eric Lee Feigl, and wife, Brenda Waltz, of Charleston; a daughter, Toni Lynn McArver, and husband, Brinkley, of Charleston; a brother, Rick Thompson of Hollywood, CA; and four grandchildren, Megan McArver, Michael McArver, Hayley Feigl, and Taylor Feigl. Dear Frank,

Ron and I were saddened to hear of Loretta's passing. Please accept our most sincere condolences for you and the family.

I would like to share the following words of wisdom:

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away!"

How fortunate we have been to have shared a few of those precious moments with your family.

Toni & Eric, just wanted you to know what a honor it was in having your mother for my 7th grade teacher. She is probably the one teacher that I remember the most that was always fair with everyone. I really enjoyed running into her at yard sales and she always kept me updated on the two of you and her grandchildren. I know that God will get you through this difficult time.

I was a student of Mrs. Feigl's many years ago as was my sister Judy Jordan Koth and brother Leo Jordan before me. Because of her math was one of my best subjects. She always made class interesting. I can remember running into her at garage sales as I got older and with all the kids that she taught she remembered me and that to me makes a wonderful teacher and person. She will truly be missed. Your families are in my thoughts and my prayers.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Feigl family. We had the pleasure of meeting Loretta and Frank when we visited Charleston aome years ago. It was her brother who made arrangements for us to meet them when we made the trip to the East Coast. They were kind and hospitable to us and showed us their lovely city and the Citadel. May her memory be eternal.

I would like to extend my sympathy to the Feigl family during your time of loss. I am a former student that vividly remembers Mrs. Feigl's "1st day of school" cartwheels. I even remember her cartwheel that ended the teachers' dance version of "U Can't Touch This" in one of JIMS' talent shows! She was a great teacher and she will be missed....

My prayers and thoughts are with Loretta and her families at this time. Never having met Loretta personally, I was pivileged to know her through the memories, photos, and joyful times, that Loretta's brother, Rick Thompson, so lovingly shared with me. May God's peace and love be with you all.

Loretta was well thought of even by those who didn't actually know her. My mother, Edith Cauthen DuPuis, spoke with me this morning and told me of her friend, Loretta, whom she will miss dearly.

Please know that your family is in our prayers, has been, and will continue to be. I hope Loretta's courage will be a comfort to you all.

Our sympathy is for all of your family. We never had the privilege to meet Loretta but we felt we almost knew her through the many times Ric talked about his sister.

Our prayers are with you.

Bob and I have you, Frank, and your family in our thoughts and prayers. We speak often often of the fact that it was Loreta who orchestrated our first blind date that has led to almost 45 years of marriage. Who would have thought!!!

Such a special and caring lady.

My sympathy to all of your family members. Although I only knew Loretta through other family members I know she was a major part of the family and she will be missed.
