Lolace Cordray Obituary

Lolace V. Cordray RAVENEL - Lolace V. Cordray, 92, of Ravenel, widower of Etheline Grooms Cordray, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at M.U.S.C. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11 o'clock at Sauldam Baptist Church, Ravenel. Burial will follow at White Church Cemetery, Ravenel. Mr. Cordray was born April 19, 1920 in Ravenel, son of the late Joseph and Lurie Platt Cordray. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School. He was the retired owner of L.V. Cordray's Meat Market on Heriot St., Charleston. He was engaged in farming interests, principally as a cattleman. He was a lifelong member of Sauldam Baptist Church in Ravenel where he served as Treasurer for many years. Mr. Cordray served during World War II in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman of Company I, 168th Infantry Division. He was captured by General Rommel's Afrika Korps during the Battle of Kassarine Pass, Tunisia, North Africa, in February of 1943. He was liberated by U.S. Forces from a German P.O.W. Camp on April 26, 1945. Surviving are four sons: Bill Cordray and his wife Diana of Carmel, Indiana; Virgil Cordray and his wife Tricia of Savannah, Georgia; Jack Cordray and his wife Belinda of Charleston; and Michael Cordray and his wife Claudia of Ravenel. Also, he is survived by four grandsons and three granddaughters: Jason Cordray of Bangkok, Thailand; Brad Cordray and his wife Michele of Wilkesboro, North Carolina; Stacey Dryden and her husband Matthew of Newport, Rhode Island; Jeana Cordray of Raleigh, North Carolina; Michelle DiMaio and her husband Jeff of Pendleton, South Carolina; Tristan Cordray and his wife Callie of Charleston; and Kenneth Cordray and his wife Kristin of Ravenel; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Lenora Cordray Parker of Harleyville.
